Moving from 37's down to 35's :(

Sad to say it but i think i may make the move.

thanks to all the information on this forum I feel i made some good choices.

carli lift, keep the stock rims because of the backspacing/offset

I went with 37's and got them 12.5 wide.

they never rubbed, ever.

I recently bought new control arms. instead of being flat on the side the tire would rub, they stick out slightly (imagine the letter 'I') and at near full lock the tire really rubs on the outer 'tips' of the 'I'

DT pro fab...price was right, and they work well. Wanted to get thurens but he said it would be be a couple months more. as of this post I'm pretty sure his are ready and out there.

anyway......I'm sick of having my spare tire in the bed!!!! it takes up waaay to much space. from what I've researched you can fit a 35 under the truck....mmmmm

I'm going to either get pro comp 37 12.5 17's and stick with my setup

or I really like the looks (and reviews) and the toyo mt's and at's.

the 37 toyos are 13.5. If i had normal, flat sided control arms I'd say why not, I'll just go for it. but with these new control arms I feel I'm maxed out at a 12.5 width.

which leads me to toyo's 35.

It will be sad to see the 37's go. they fill it out so nicely. I tow an 8,000 lb trailer and don't even know it's back there. b'c of the turbo i don't even notice a power loss for me...at stock the trucks plenty powerful with 37's and 4.10 gearing

someone talk some sense into me!!!

I need to pull the trigger here...my old tires are near bald (goodyear mtr's...worked well - make sure you get them balanced when they are new!!!!) I got about 30k out of them but the two rear tires have worn odd and if i put them on the front they rattle the truck at 70...so for the last 10k I've just kept them on the rear, no problems.

All I can tell you is that for many obvious reasons as you have stated, I chose to go with 35's. First and biggest reason - I did not want my spare in the bed, been there, done that, PITA. I chose to just level the truck with a KORE Leveling kit and go with Bilstein shocks, would make a shock choice and other suspension upgrades later after the warranty was done. I pull several trailers, some to 18K, all is good.

Stick with 37's.
I just don't carry a spare with me. Even on my wheeling rigs. I've been doing rock crawling for about 10 years now. Never had a flat.
Just carry a can of flat fix with you or a repair kit instead.
Aren't the 35" toyo's 13.5" wide as well?
Besides a our trucks look so much better on 37's.... all of mine are on 37's

IF you do down size... send me your kings

I would keep the 37s and use a 35 as a spare to fit under the truck. Maybe keep another 37 at the house, incase you had to use the 35, you could swap them out if your in a bind.

big man, did you have 4.10 gears of 3.73?

I'm not a gear expert, but won't you wreak havoc on your differentials with different size tires in case you need to 'limp home'?

You would have to switch them. You have to have the same size tires on the drive axle, but if you have a flat on the rear, you'd have to change 2 tires. Bring one of the fronts to the back, and put the 35 up front.

mcole...that's what I was thinking. however, when a dodge truck is in 2wd, the front drive shaft is still spinning. is this an issue?

zac-the mtr's have been ok to me. the only issue i had was a serious vibration above 70mph. brought my tires in to get balanced (place that installed them couldn't balance 37's) and the tires were so bad that I had put the worse ones on the back.

all in they were good considering their size...i have a certain leniency towards larger tires. however, i'm going to try the pro comps if I stick with 37's.

As long as you are in 2wd, running a 37 one side and the 35 other. Going straight down the road an open diff would act the same as if your in a turn. To Limp home I don't see a problem in it. Just take it slow, easy, and treat it like a donut tire on a passenger car.

If you have a LSD in the rear diff keep the 37 in the rear and move the 35 to the front.

I like my 37" Toyos for the weight capacity and off-road traction (besides, they look pretty )

I wouldn't mind 19.5"s with semi tires, but that's several thousand $$$ which is pretty low in the BOMB budget.

I don't mind the Toyo's 13.5" rubbage on the control arms - their stainless steel wear plates keep the powder coat looking nice.

Anyone driving without a spare is asking for trouble.
With a leveled truck I'd go with the 35's.
