More questions about Smarty Jr.

I received my Smarty Jr. yesterday. Thanks Lary and Bob for quick shipping!

I was about to load one of SW settings, but I have a few questions. I read the instruction manual (several times) and checked the MADS website, but was unable to find answers to:

1. Does high idle get enabled? I currently do not have that feature.

2. Is SW #1 for mileage, towing or performance?

3. Is SW #3 strictly for towing. There was a post that suggest that.

Thanks!

I had the understanding that the Smarty JR does in fact enable the high idle feature. All you have to do is use the cruise control to adjust it. I don't think it works on manuals though.

That doesn't make sense my understanding is you run whatever software you like best for whatever application that said #3 is the "optimum software" for towing and not "just strictly" for towing.

I'm not sure about the Jr. but, the Sr's newer software and maybe the old does enable high idle. It's written into the program and not adjustable.

It probably does work on the Jr since the Jr's software is the same as the Sr's #1, #3 & #5 mild TQ.

It will automatically turn on if the temp is low enough. If it doesn't get that cold where you are, you'll probably never see it work.

I have already enabled my high idle before I installed the Smarty Jr. so if it does enable it I am unaware of it.

acrojet is correct with the software info:
1=Milage
2=Towing
3=Performance

When flashing your ecm Smarty Jr. even lists the software by name. (se above)

acrojet- Hi idle is enabled but you have a manual trans and to make it work you have to ground pin 22? on the harness (not sure what connector) you can find out how to do this by searching this site for the info.(sorry I don't have a link handy)

Those that have an automatic trans the High idle function will work, even if it was not enabled before loading Smarty Jr.

Yes, I have already enabled the high idle with the ECM bypass pin wire, but I'm sure others can use that info

Wv7o -

Thanks for the info! I'm new at this stuff and I don't want to mess anything up.

Can the high idle be turned on at any temp or just below a certain temperature?

The high idle can be turned on at any time, as far as I know.

Also the pin you need to ground is #22 on the ECM plug, There is no pin so you will need to buy one, attach wire and install it in the plug and ground the other end, this will allow the high idle function to work.

I have read you can buy the pin from your local Cummins Dealer, I would think you could also get it from Dodge.

The even number programs on the smarty SR do not have added timing. Does the smarty programs all have added timing? If not which ones don't have added timing and are good to stack with timing boxes.

They all add timing. You need smarty "sr" for no added timing.
