Yes there is a difference between "injector rattle and "engine rattle" . I've lived in it driven it , fu....in it for the last 30 years. Engine rattle I can take , injector rattle or timming rattle is something else. If the Smarty or Jr. exhibits this thats all I want to know.

 

With the older 12v and 24v trucks there was one injection per compression stroke. Nice and loud. I love it!

To decrease NVH, increase economy and power, and to reduce emissions our newer trucks have 2 or 3 injections per compression stroke. This quiets the motor significantly.

Because the motor is so much more quiet, any change in sound is much easier to hear. Most of the performance mods that added large power to my '03 made it sound different. At first I was paranoid about it, but I learned that it was the nature of the beast. 40k+ miles of trying different things and I never had a motor-related issue. The new owner has put on 20k and it still runs like a top!

All I'm saying is that if you hear some timing rattle, it's no big deal.
