I've been told to change the fluid and filter every 20,000-30,000 miles. I changed mine about 1000 miles after the rebuild and then 20,000 miles later.

My builder told me every 25,000. I did it today at 25,221 and the fluid was a little dark. I talked to Shanti at DTT and she told me to change fluid and filter every 15,000. Use the cheaper fluid and change more often approach.

Band adjustment was not necessary as my trans shifts like the day it was built. Shifts really smooth with the new fluid in it. If shifting changes I'll adjust the bands next time I change fluid.

By the way I drained the converter as well and put back 15 quarts fluid with 15 oz. of lubegard. Did the T-Case while I was in there as well.

The cheapest ATF+4 I've found is $3.77 at Walmart right now. With a deep pan and 15k change intervals I wouldn't characterize that as cheap by any stretch.

I didn't use atf + 4. I used the Walmart Supertech Dex III and put the appropriate amount of Lubegard in it. $9.77 a gallon for the fluid (4 gal.) $10.49 for 2 bottles of Lubegard and $7.99 for the filter. $68 bucks for materials and I did the labor. That is cheap. I'll be doing it every 15-20,000 miles from now on.

And yes, I did notice the shifting seems to be smoother. Down shifting not as harsh either. I'm happy with it.

Yes - definitely change it quite frequently if you're doing that!

I prefer "firm" shifting.
