module dilemma
module dilemma
Okay, I need some input from someone that's been in my shoes or even someone that's in my shoes now.
I've had an Edge EZ under the hood of my '03 SO for about a year now. I've really liked the unit and it really woke the truck up. But, as the old story goes, once you taste the power, you want more - or a different form of it.
In my case, I've either been thinking of going to a completely different module - say the Xzillarider or the Van AAken - or going with some injectors.
Ultimately I think I want injectors, but just can't have my truck sitting around while I send mine in and wait for the new set to come in. I want to buy a set, take the old out and put the new in all in one day. I just don't think there are many companies that sell injectors for the '03 or newer trucks. And I don't read about too many people upgrading injectors just yet.
This leaves me with the thought of buying a new box. I think I can stack the VA with the Edge, but not sure about that. Has anyone does this and were they impressed?
But this Xzillaraider sounds good too. I like that it messes with timing, injection quantity / pressure and boost.
Has anyone had this dilemma? I'd hate to buy a new box and have the EZ just sit around in the garage. Can you sell these boxes once you've used them??
What do you guys think? I tow light trailers quite often, so I like the low end power idea of the Xzillaraider and VA - something the EZ doesn't have much of. I haven't ruled out the injectors, but I think for the money and availability options, the modules are the best way to go. So should I stack the VA with the EZ (if that can be done), or try and sell the EZ and get the Xzillaraider?
And I thought having all this technology was supposed to make life easier!! Too many options for a good thing!!!
Thanks for your input guys!

Schorb,
I am sure someone will be quick to correct me if I am wrong
, but I don't think stacking the VA w/ an EZ is the way to go.
When you say light trailers what kind of weight are you talking about?

Sounds like we were in the exact same situation. I think the absolute best stack for the EZ is the TST box. I used to run an EZ and the only reason I didn't go the TST stack route is because of the price and also because I would definitely need more trans work. There is no way I could just run on the lower settings.
I ended up with the Quadzilla race box and all I can say is WOW!!
I can't wait to get my truck on the dyno because it just flies compared to what it did with the EZ set on level 5! My dyno numbers with the EZ on level 4 were 299.5hp/554tq. The torque number sucks but the truck towed just fine.
I've thought about injectors too but I think there's a waiting list for those for 3rd gens. It just never ends.......
Find member "Doug" and look at his Matrix for modules. He tested a lot of them and also different stack combos and even gives dyno numbers. It's very interesting...

Dodgezilla - I know about the matrix that Doug put together and that's where I thought I read that you could stack the VA with the EZ.
Let's see....what I mean by light trailers are..hmm...not sure the exact weight, but one is a 12 ft. flat bed loaded with two 4-wheelers (250cc). The other is a 16' Champion bass boat. In my opinion, those are light trailers compared to what most of you guys tow.
Is this Quadzilla race box good to use for towing? What about fuel pressures? I stay away from the higher settings with the EZ due to the pressures, so I'm not looking for a box that has a high risk of causing damage later on.

I also wanted a box that didn't increase my fuel pressures. I don't need the risk of ruining something just to get some more power. I decided to go with the VA3.2 box. Even on the low setting (60hp) it provides enough driveability for me. On the high setting (110hp) it runs nice but is a bit hot on the EGT side. EGT's on the low are ok and seem to stop at about 1200 degrees but on the high they climb really fast (3-4 seconds) and will exceed 1200 degrees. I havn't done the exhaust or intake thing yet. So far it's what I need. Good luck.
If you're going to tow with the race box it's a good idea to leave it on the 60hp setting. My SO tows 10-12,000lbs easily on that setting. My EGTs stay pretty low too but as you can see, I've done some other work... SOs tend to run lower temps than the HOs anyways... If you stack then I'd start saving for at least a new converter and valve body.
DonM who makes some great injectors says that he's seen lots of clogging injectors that have come off trucks running high pressure boxes like the EZ box. I ran my truck with an EZ on level 4 or 5 for a couple years with no apparent problems. Heck, I even towed on those settings with no problems..
