Methanol Question

I will likely be doing a water/meth injection kit in the near future...

Why is methanol the alcohol fuel of choice? Has anyone ran any other types alcohol fuels?

Spend a few minutes searching DTR or googling methanol + racing fuel, then we can answer any remaining questions... right now it'd take too long to type everything you want to know.

Yes, other fuels have been injected.

Long chains? Like cetane or something?

CH3OH (methanol) has a large cooling effect due to it's high latent heat of evaporization, and is relatively cheap and readily available.

It absorbs a lot of heat when it changes state (from a liquid to a gas)...

It varies between types/temp ranges - I don't believe it's anywhere near 50%.

I seem to remember the pump OEM saying that running non-denatured alchohol shortens the pumps' MTBF (and that the WW fluid doesn't have denatured). Too busy to look it up right now, but I remember posting on it last year.

Have you ever put some regular rubbing alcohol on your hand it is always cold. This is the same principle with methanol its got a cooling effect and combusts with the fuel to give you more power but burns cooler at the same time so you get the egt drop. Thats also why alot of the sick race cars run alcohol instead of pump gas as fuel the cooling effect and more power.

I think its mostly due to running high compression (the race car thing), but the cooling effect is still nice
