Mag-Hytec rear diff cover

I"ve got a Hellwig rear sway bar on my truck and am thinking of putting a Mag-hytec rear diff cover on to add capacity but am afraid I won't have the room with the sway bar. Anybody got any first hand experience with this?

Also, I'm running amsoil in the diff's already so am I going to buy myself much of anything with adding the Mag-hytec when I don't do a whole lot of heavy towing. I tow a toy hauler a few times a year that is a little over 10K when fully loaded but most of the time I tow probably half that.

I think it will fit. Seems I have seen a few pics on here of some trucks running both the MH and Hellwig.

I have a friend with a PML rear diff cover and a Hellwig and it appears to have room to spare. It's in my future plans to add a Hellwig to my truck and I have MH rear cover.

No, 'cept more of that pricey Amsoil fluid. But they sure do look cool!

Kinda what I figured since I'm not trying to tow a major amount all over the place but you are right, they do look cool!

I disagree with the above. I believe the Mag Hy-Tec is essential for racers and heavy towers, valuable to all, and worth the money for two reasons.....
1- They allow you to inspect the gearlube for color and smell, via the dip stick. This can be very valuable.
2- The dip stick and drain plug are magnets. They collect any and all clutch face 'dust' and keep it out of circulation. More importantly, they collect any bright shavings as an early indicator of serious problems.
I get quite a bit of clutch face material on the magnets in 1000 miles.... And three times as much if drag racing or towing heavily.

Thirdly, they make it easy and simple to change one of the most ignored lubricants on our CTD's.
This allows us to keep to maintenance schedules without putting off messy jobs.

If you want to save a bit of money and don't need all the bling of a MH,get a PML cover.

The PMLs are about $100 less than a MH and have all the same advantages. Increased capacity, drain plugs, and cooling fins. They don't have a dipstick but the fill hole is big enough that you can see right into the housing to check the fluid level.

The only real advatage to the Mag-hytec type covers is heat control from the larger fluid volume and aluminum-finned suface area. You might get longer service intervals from the bigger fluid capacity, but I wouldn't chance it with a heavy hauler. The AAM's don't have clutches, the drain bolt's a magnet, and the recommended synthetic lube will run problem-free for 100,000 miles in a truck not doing heavy towing duty.

Yeah, I'm not doing what I would consider heavy towing much if at all and figured with the amsoil in it the drain interval would be extended to start with. I don't think I'm overheating it with what I pull and even when I get into the mountains I'm not hammering it so doubt it's being hurt there either. I did go with the tranny pan just to increase the capacity and help with the cooling.

I'm not opposed to installing one but thought maybe the bucks could go to something that would be better. I remember when diff fluid was almost a liftime thing although I know some people paid for that attitude. With these trucks I try to stay on top of everything as best I can.
