mag-hytec rear diff cover

just installed my rear diff mag-hytec cover.very nice product, quality stainless bolts, cover is very heavy-duty.the craftsmanship is professional.Used about 7 quarts of lucas 75/140 synthetic, and 9 oz of limited slip additive.truck has 15,000 miles on it.I want to do the front but dont know if my carli lift,w/fox steering stabilizer, and trac bar will interfere with a front cover from mag-hytec.have to do some research.if anyone is on the fence about doing your covers in mag-hytec,do it,you wont be dissapointed.

Uses Amsoil 75W-110 when I put on my Mag-Hytec. No additive necessary.

Just wanted to make sure the additive is not necessary. I also filled the rear with the amsoil SG 75w-110, good stuff.

I put Amsoil 75W-90 in mine, no additive needed. Some discussion on here that guys with the heavier weight oils needing it to prevent the limited slip from acting up when in sharps turns, especially when pulling heavy trailers.

I put the front one on and with my 4.5 inch Tough country lift I have a slight contact in the top corner of the cover... Not sure I'm going to keep it on their, may go back to stock. Quality product, just wish they would re-design the front one slightly to prevent this type of clearance issue. I've heard guys that have shaved the area I have contact with to prevent contact after talking to Mag-Hytec. Also, supposedly Mag-Hytec redesigned the front diffs in the past year or so to make it fit better, but I have the newer one and it still contacts...

Of course...........you could just run a MH on the rear diff.......and a PML on the front.

I know, just didn't want to waste the front now that I have my little notch in the Mag Hytec. But the thought has crossed my mind....

No additive. I'm using Amsoil 75 / 140. Is that the cover with a dip stick?

I put mine on a couple years ago, filled with Lubrication Engineers 80/90.

Yes the cover has a magnetic dipstick on it.

The reason you don't need any friction modifier in our diffs is because there are no clutches in our possi units. They are a worm gear type spyder. Check out the True-Track units by Detroit for a better exp.

dodge claims the 11.5 inch rears require additive.its certainly not going to hurt or contaminate the oil if you use it and its not needed.lucas oil also claims no additive needed when you use their synthetic fluid, but again, its no big deal to just add the additive, costs like12 bucks for 9 0z.I figure i will give carli a call to see if they can give me a definative answer on wether their 3 inch lift will rub a mag-hytec front cover before i spend the money on it.

Actually, they say to not use it, in bold letters in the owners manual. The additive is added on clutch style LSD's, the OE in the AAM is a helical gear setup...
