How would I go about finding my axle size? I have a 03 SO Auto 48re, 2500.
I believe the 10.5" and 11.5" measurements refer to the ring gear diameter.

I assume the 11.5" axle has a slightly larger diff housing? If so, you could park next to a newer CTD that definitely has the 11.5 and compare the two.

10.5 and 11.5 are ring gears sizes. The 10.5 is the same size as a Dana 70, the 11.5 is equal to the Dana 80 in size. (don't confuse that with being able to swap covers)

The '03 2500 SOs are a bit of an odd duck (early '04s as well). Some could have an 11.5, but it is more than likely they have the 10.5.

All HOs have the 11.5. All 3500's have the 11.5.

My 2003 2500 SO has: 48re, 10.5 rear with 4:10s + anti spin, cat, and passenger side keyed door lock.

No need to bang your head any more.

All pre 03/03 model trucks that came with the auto were equiped with the 47re. I don't know the exact date that Dodge started using the 48re's but I know it was in the 3rd month of 2003.

I just went down to my truck(to rehang my alarm sensor, doubled sided tape on plastic is no good) and I looked in the glovebox on the spec sheet and it stated that I do have the 10.5 rear axle with 3.73 gears.

Ok, so now that's all taken care of. Whats the real difference between the two? Better towing capabilities, acceleration?

Strength. The bigger the ring gear, the stronger it is (generally speaking).

The MH front differential cover clearance issues were taken care of a while ago at least for stock front end suspensions, correct?

Any issues with some of the improved trac bars that anyone is aware of?

Thanks!
