Mag high tech VS PML

I did some searching but to no avail.

I know the PML will add 3/4s of a quart to the rear diff and 1/2 of a quart to th the front. But I cant fint out how much the Mag covers add. I know the Mag covers have some more bells and wistles like a dip stick and a place for a temp sender but other than that is there any differance in the two???

This is just an idea I am thinking about but I know the PML is about 80 bucks cheaper a cover and if it holds a much fluid and cools as well as the Mag cover that is the one I will get, if I get one.

I have the PML covers on the '05; the rear cover holds .75qt extra fluid and has a spot for the temp sender - just drill and tap as needed. There's a magnetic drain plug on the bottom, fill plug on top and fluid level plug in between.

BTW - we have a retrofit kit to mount the FAST coolers on the G56!

I have PMLs, and I am happy with them.

1/2 a quart to 3/4 of a quart isnt going to make much difference, I think

I haven't installed the rear MH cover yet, but I think I read it holds 4qts extra. I was very impressed with it when I opened the box. The quality is top notch on the MH...very nice finish and well worth the extra $80 IMO.

4qrts, good grief that is double. I may just run the MH in the rear and a PML up front cause I dont see you gettin much more out of the front cause the steering linkage. But I have been wrong before.

I am in a "cosmetics" stage on the truck right now and when I finish that this may be one of the things I do.

Mike, can you shoot me some info? I was on your sight the other day but I didnt see what you are refering too.

Also using the PML cover. I couldn't use the MH cover do to the clearance issue with the spare tire (I have a 2wd).

I have both the front and read MagHytec diff covers. The rear diff took 8 quarts, the front diff took 4 quarts. They are very nice pieces, heavy duty construction. Nice to have a dipstick to check fluid levels. I also have the G56 FastCoolers, they DO have a retrofit kit for our tranny. I would do all 3 of them again, all very nice quality.

I have a rear PML cover. No issues. .75 qt extra fluid. Don't over torque when installing. 20 ft lbs is more than enough to seal and hold.

I kept the stock steel front but welded in a drain plug. AL cracks, and a stone could crack and drain the fluid on a trip w/o your even knowing it till to late. I'll take the dent over a crack thank you.

Maybe we can get MythBusters to shoot gravel rocks at 70 mph at a PML or other cast AL cover to see if they crack or dent. Compare to a stock steel one. I may be wrong....

I just felt funny about it. Sand cast Aluminum in the front just felt wrong to me. Maybe it is better than steel.... I followed my gut. My AL cover on the front of my Guzzi has stone hits ... one cracked that. (no oil in there tho) But it made me think a bit about the cast AL on the truck.

Since I have lock outs the extra fluid is not needed.. Really even w/o lock out hubs what real help is extra fluid in the front?.. Who tows long distance in 4x4?

The front is for looks... Nothing wrong with a nice looking truck... I may even repaint mine!

I haven't seen a PML in person, but the MH covers are WAY stronger than the stockers. If you see one you'll know what I mean. The front MH would save your butt if you nailed a rock with the front. If you hit something hard and fast enough to actually crack the MH, then you would be stranded anyway with the stocker being crushed into the ring gear.

I won't be hitting mine on anything so it is just for looks. You on the other hand sound like you have some concerns about it. If you need protection up front I would definitely consider the MH.

I was pulling measurements to build a 3/16 thick front and rear one out of stainless when I saw this thread. I guess maybe I will see if I can get a dipstick for them from MH. I wonder what thread is used on that?

will, the price of the cover doesnt kill you, its the 2 GALLONS of gear oil you need to fill that baby up. i put mine on last month. and after towing to montana last week, i touched it, and it was not as hot as is used to be with the stock cover.

We have a kit that retrofits FAST Coolers on the G56... I'll try to get some pics up ASAP.
If there's enough interest, we may design our own tranny fluid coolers for the G56 out of stainless steel for an economical, high quality alternative.

Would you mind letting us know where you got them?
Everyone else keeps saying that there's no such thing!
