Made my 5" exhaust quieter!!!

Well finally I got around to getting my truck back on the road today.

I painted my new rear driveshaft and installed the patchwork exhaust parts I bought recently. Back in September I destroyed the exhaust while sledpulling (broken yoke/ujoint etc).

I have a stock 4" downpipe and instead of fixing the 5" section that was hurt under the cab I installed a long straight (5 feet worth) section of 4". So I basically have a 4" exhaust section then when it gets to the bed I have a 5" muffler and then the tail pipe section begins (which is also 5").

I can say so far I am alot happier with the sound since it has come down quite a bit. Much drone is gone and the truck is more enjoyable to drive!!

Outside the cab the truck is as loud as ever!!

yeah, bad drone can drive you crazy
Did you notice any EGT difference between the two set-ups?
or is it not a big enough difference....

So you are sayin that it is quieter?
What about the tone?

I have a 5" exhaust waitin to be put on but I am gonna wait till I drop the trans and do it all at once. I am not sure if I have enought pipe (they gave me adapters for the cat) but I was thinkin of usin some 4" pipe in the place for the cat but was worried abou the sound/tone.

I will not be using a muffler of any kind.

Oh yeah inside the cab alot of the drone and resonance is gone. It is actually quieter from everything from Idle to cruising speeds.

On the outside of the cab the throaty deep tone is all still there.

Wap,
To give you some backround:
Back when had the 5" exhaust (Flo-Pro) it only had a muffler. At the time I had a B1 turbo (62mm) and it was terribly loud. So loud the wife would not ride with me anymore. I next had a 5" resonator installed. At that point the exhaust was bearable again.

I then upgraded turbos to a sps66 and the exhaust did get a little louder but not so bad that I didnt like it.

Fast forward again, I installed the Aurora 5000 turbo and it was like it was back to the beginning again....LOUD.

So its like having a new exhaust again!!!

Repeat after me: The bigger the turbo you go with the louder your exhaust will get (twins make it quieter however).

So as far as tone out side the truck 5" exhuast with a 4" section it sounds the same.

Inside, not quite as loud and less drone.

And outside just as loud.

Correct?

congrats on your "new" exhaust too
