Question Looking at a new turbo, need reasurrance

After slogging through dozens of posts about EGT's and new turbo suggestions I realize this subject has literally been beaten to death and I'm sorry for dragging it up again. But as it is a high cost addition I want to make sure I am making the right decision.

I'm looking at an HTT 62/65/13ss. I'm not really looking to hit 500 hp I just need to lower my egt's a bit. My stock turbo will hit 33 PSI but I still see almost 1400* climbing and pulling pretty easy on level 1 with the edge.

So does this turbo sound like it will work well for my application/wants?

Thanks
Dave

Actually, reading all his posts is what convinced me that this was "THE" turbo to buy.

For sub-500hp levels, that turbo would be IDEAL for you. It will spool very quick and will keep you cool. It has my vote!!!

Uh-oh

What did i get my self into?

I really like the HTT, it has many good qualities and its ideal for a stocker or moderately modded. You will be satisfied with the 65 wheel, it will scream for you!!!

Rip's approval

Thanks for all the replies I feel a lot better about taking the plunge. Now that I have Rick's approval I guess I better get a hold of Lary and see what it'll cost

If you are only pushing your stock turbo to 33psi, you are leaving HP and cooling capacity on the table. Try running your stock turbo 42-45 psi and then decide if you need to upgrade. Stocker is all you need for 500 HP or less. If you want to tow with 475 HP and less than 1400 egt's, you need twin turbos or a 400 gallon water injection tank.

Maybe 500 gallon. We pushed one of our stockers to 500hp and couldn't even tow.

If you want lower egts, you might also consider a different power adder box. The Bullydog works well on the 05's. The Smarty gets awesome egt reviews as well. While 1400 sustained temps is not recommended, your truck is designed to hit 1400* with stock tuning for short pulls of 20 seconds as you top Monida pass at 80mph.

A 62/65 will give you more room, no doubt about it. There are more qualities of the HTT turbo that would make anyone want one, even if it isn't needed. In your case, I think it would help out. Of course i wouldn't tow pushing 500hp (boy I'm lying through my teeth). The extra capacity of the HTT alone will get you better cooling, the spoolup won't be dramatically different, and most of all if you have to return to stock for any reason it won't be so laggy like the big boys will be. It is an "Ideal" stock replacement with room to grow. That's why i would suggest it. it will cost you, but with it being rebuildable much easier than oem turbos it will last you longer and be more beneficial to you in the long run. Since there have been problems with the manifold gasket blowing out, make sure you get the steel oem gasket and not the crush compression gasket. I have the latter and it hasn't caused me a problem yet, but it probably will one day.

I just got through towing my 10k trailer over 700 miles at 500hp... so what's wrong with that? Of course I had to "detune" to get to 500hp...

Nothing at all, my friend, nothing at all!!!

But if 500hp is your ceiling it could be a little rough on the truck. Heck, if you were driving it hard I bet it would hurt your truck in some way eventually.

Well you do have to drive responsibly... and watch your gauges...

But seeing the faces on the folks in the BMW as I passed them on an 8% grade towing that trailer at 65mph was priceless...
