Leveling kit?
Leveling kit?
Hear a lot of guys talking about putting a leveling kit on their truck. Just curious what the purpose of the leveling kit actually is. Don't really know if it's a cosmetic thing or a functional thing (towing). Why or why not do it?

It's a spacer ontop of your front coils to raise the front to the same level as the rear. Cosmetic but also allows you to run 315's on factory wheels without tires rubbing.
I was thinking of it but I carry a load when we go away which means *** end would end up lower than front and look even more stupid, answer is to put airbags in back but maybe later...

I say do it. They make the trucks sit up tall and proud in the front like they should. I pull a 5th wheel travel trailer with mine and I can't really tell that it looks that different with vs. without the kit while hooked up. But when my truck is empty (which is most of the time) it levels out the profile from front to back very nicely imo.

Yah, it's raked a little high in the rear so it'll sit level when loaded, like all trucks, or is there more to it?
Don't know nuthin bout no diff covers...
I'd like to do the levelling thing, thing is I can barely get my truck under my 9 ft garage door with the boat on, I mean barely, like by an inch or 2, I'm thinkin it won't go with 2" more in the front, decisions, decisions...

I just put a Superlift leveling kit on our truck and I love it. The kit came with new coils and front bumpstops. Not a huge difference, but it's more level front to rear and looks much better IMHO.

I'm wondering why the Superlift kit uses new springs rather than the spacers many people on here are happy with? Are the springs stiffer or?
Gotta admit, the "death wobble" that seems to be blamed on levelling kits is a bit of a concern in my mind.

The springs are stiffer as they are probably not even an inch taller than the stock ones, but the ride is still nice and I'm very happy with it. They may go the spring route because they know a lot of folks, at least around here, that do leveling kits will also be installing heavy front bumpers (like us), etc, that can weigh the front end down. The stiffer spring rate helps compensate for the extra weight hanging off the front. I'll try to remember to ask them why the went with coils vs spacers for their leveling kit the next time I talk to them.
The death wobble issue is probably due to guys not setting the toe set properly after doing the lift. Any time you change the suspension height on a vehicle with the inverted-Y steering linkage (which is what these trucks have), you've got to at least get the toe reset. If you install a lift on these trucks you'll be toe-in, which causes death wobble. You can have the toe/alignment done by an alignment shop, or do it youself if you know what you're doing.

I have the core leveling kit on mine. The springs are larger and taller and it came with bilstein shocks. Not a big difference in day to day driveing, but you can tell a difference when I go out on the beach. I don't tow much so I like the look of the truck being level. Plus I couldn't have put on my 35's with out it.
