Kenwood,Fosgate,?
Hey Guys, I need a little stereo advice. I have read up and studied on what it takes to build a great stereo for Quad Cab. I have to work with right now, don't laugh, a best buy card with a 2000 dollar available limit. I also have a few Items from an old stereo. Things got a little out of hand down @ BB the other day and the kid workin the car audio dpt wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed not that I am. Here is what I came home with 1 Fosgate Punch 400x4 amp,1 Fosgate Punch 300x1 amp, 1 set 2 way Infinity Kappa 6x9's and a Kenwood dnx 5120 head unit. Everything can be returned but the amps and head unit seem really nice. I know I could probably get a better price but I'm stuck with BB due to the fact I am unemployed and dont have alot of spare cash. I do want to go back to work with at least the foundation of a kick a.. system. I have an old Fosgate Punch 150 amp that works great and a couple of pre fab Kicker 10" boxes w/4"X2" collapsed dome tweets (Old School I know ). They came out of my 84 4x4 SB Yota. From what I have read the trick system is A good 4x amp around 400RMS pushin Focal 6 1/2 Comp in the front and Focal 5 1/2 Comps in the back. A 300x1 watt amp pushin 1 10" JL either under the rear seat or in a console box (I forget the name)would sound pretty good. Will of course upgrade all underhood and speaker/amp wire.Thinkin bout returning the Kappas and using the money for cableing. I can't afford the door speaks or sub right now but I am patient and hate doing stuff twice. What would you do for now and in the future ? Any thoughts appreciated Phil ... Out P.S. I have the "Premium" Infinity system in my 06 3500 QC 4x4 The system will be playing everything from PBA Metallica to Marley to Cash to That funky Cypress Hill S...
Sounds like you could put together something pretty good with the parts you bought. The differences between components, as long as they arn't total crap, are very small these days. It also depends on what your taste is. I would put in the head and 4x400 with the stock speakers and see what it's like, if passable return the Infinitys if not put them in. Unless you need the back seat put the sub box in with the Fosgate until you can get the hidden sub. Try Crutchfield.com for the sub box, they have the console and the under seat units. They are a wealth of information on systems too.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Start by getting the backbone of your system first. This means you want a good head unit and amplifiers to power both the door speakers and subs. The Kenwood unit you have is very good, in fact im about to upgrade to its big brother the DNX8120, so I highly recommend your choice. Your on to a good start.
The two amps will be fine for pushing a set of door speakers and a couple of modest 10 inch subs. (JL Audio 10w1, RF Punch P1 series etc). I wouldnt go much higher in class than those type of subs or your gonna need more power. And its always been of my opionon if you have a Fosgate amp run Fosgate Subs, JL amp JL subs etc.
The Infinity Kappa door speakers are a fine pair and will sound great off the 4 channel Fosgate amp. The Kappas are true Infiniti speakers and in no way shape or form should even be mentioned or compared with the factory "Infiniti" system the comes in upscaled Dodges. There is no comparaison.
As far as a good sub box, I have always and will always recommend a Fox Box... http://www.foxacoustics.com/ Its worth the wait and the money to get your hands on one.
So here is my advice summed up...
Keep the Dnx5120, its a great start. Keep the Kappa 6x9 and get a pair of 6 3/4 for the rear doors. Keep both punch amps and get a fox box and a pair of RF P1 10" subs. Presto, a supurb sounding system that should be pretty close to withing your budget.... Hope that helps.

Thanx for that. I think the only question at this point is would a single P1 sub hold up and sound adequate. I do like the storage under the seat. Also any tips on where to mount the amps ? I assume under front seats. Thanx Phil

If you want to maintain the underseat storage on at least one side that 300.1 RF amp will hand one 4 ohm P2 10" sub. It will sound fine just a single sub. Amps under the front seats. Not too much breathing room or ease of adjustment tucked up under the back of the rear seats.
Shoulda got a mega... endless stereo building room....

Sorry just giving you a hard time,
what your putting in will sound fanfreakintastic.... crank it to 11, and enjoy......

some of my thoughts, as im doing a setup in my truck at this instant-
don't bother changing the rear speakers- the stockers will work fine for some fill back there, i may not even use them at all- all they will do is pull your imaging toward the rear of the truck.
just looked up the specs- you get 2 rca pre-outs with what you've bought you can run your 4 cab speakers with the front rca, and use the switchable rear to run your sub- i would use that 300.1 and you can send the old punch 150 to me ....actually i will buy it if you wanna sell it!!
SOUND DEADENING rip the carpet up and the door covers off and lay down a bunch of sound deadening. makes a big difference, especially in a big old clattery diesel....
sub- get one of those fox boxes- i bought a cheapie 2x12" one on ebay and the sound sucked. this afternoon, i went out there and removed one sub, and bashed out the center divide between the two sub enclosures, doubling the airspace for the one sub i left in. the difference was immediate and impressive, even with the box venting through the open speaker hole i've not had time to fill up... the sub plays lower and easier.... i'm running it with an Orion Xtr 2400 amp @ 2ohms... that should be enough power....
I could go on and on. PM me if you have any issues with your install, or hey make a post and take pictures and do it like that....
