K&N or not to K&N...

Im looking into purchasing a intake in the near future and I was looking at the K&N full intake. It looks to be a quality product. Is anyone on this site using it and what do you think. I have heard rumors in the diesel world that it doesnt like anything but Naturally Aspirated but I have a K&N on my 04 Cobra and im not pushing 40 psi but I have seen almost 15.. I also see a lot of people use the AFE. Why is that being that its almost twice the price for the stage II. Im a newb to diesel but not to vehicles so your opinions and experience would be appreciated to help me make my purchase.

my brother had one on his 05 and we do oil smaples on both our trucks.and his showed to be sucking dirt.I wouldn't use one just from what i have seen and the test we have done and have oil samples to prove it.he later replaced with afe pro gaurd 7 and no signs of dirt in oil.not trying toi down the product but it think there are better products out there. I think k & n should have stuck with gas engines.

AFE makes one that meets oem dirt filtration specs as well as True flow here in Pheonix. I wouldn't run one neither. Had a freind with one and we pulled air intake hose off after filter and was coated with oil and dirt. NO THANKS

I have also heard of a lot of negative with the K&N intakes on diesels. Filtration is not near what is should be in graphs I have seen. My buddy had an FIPK (and still does) on his truck and after 30k the dealer replaced his turbo...that was around 100k. He didn't say why, I think he was too embarassed to admit I was right about the K&N sucking dirt and oil....He still won't let me pull the filter off and rub the inside of the tube with my finger. Might have to do it this week when he's working and it's at our installer's shop getting a fass. He thinks he cured it by putting the K&N sock onto it.

If you buy the intake throw the filter away. I ran mine then I heard about K&Ns letting dirt in. So I pulled mine off and sure enough a fine dust in the intake tube!!!!!! Not to mention my turbo had a very light coating of oil on the blades. I pulled the K&N filter off gave it to a kid that was runnin a Honda and installed a Amsoil 4095 dry nanofiber air filter.... and guess what? No dust in the intake tube! Just my .02 worth

I am running a K&N intake/filter right now. Amsoil 4091 Nanofiber is in the works, trying to find out about Outerwears for it.

I went with the AEM brute force just because of the ease of the dry filter...

No experience but I have heard that if you don't get the Oil just right on the filter or keep up with it it can cause problems...

the K&N filters are known for letting dirt past you can run one for a while and see oil and dirt in the turbo.

i run a afe intake tube and an AEM dry flow filter. i like the aem dry flow and if you put it side by side to a k&n, the quality is much better

i used to have a k&n on there and the mounting flange broke right off, letting a bunch of dirt in. good thing i caught it before it did any real damage

If you want the best oiled intake out there do it right the first time and get an AFE Stage 2.

I agree also, do it right the first time and go with the AFE stage 2. You can even get it with their Pro Dry S filter if you prefer to run a dry filter over an oiled one. I went that route and couldn't be happier.
