Jake Brake for 48re?
I've heard the story time and again about the am possible Jake Brake for the 48re. Has anyone heard the latest updates on fixing the problem with the warping of the valves if installed. Or any information would be great..
Computer programing. The 48re and the computer have to talk to eachother and as of now do not. The 05's may be reprogramed at a later date but nothing is for sure.
Never heard of any valve warping with an exhaust brake as they have been used on the manual tranny almost forever. The 12 valve engines had to have the exhaust valve springs changed to 30Lb ones to stop valve float but that was an easy fix. And no, a real jake brake is not used on the 5.9 as far as I can find out.

I talked the the shop foreman at my dealer about an exhaust brake, and he told me if I were to do it with my automatic trans, I should get an aftermarket torque converter, and the BD torquelok as well because the factory converter cannot handle the load. I don't know how strict your dealer is, but mine said if any other transmission failures occured, they would warranty everything except the aftermarket converter.
