Introduction.....with a question...
Hey guys, TNLoneWolf here (new member). I was just looking around the web today, trying to find a little information about EGT probe locations, and found this site. I bought a used 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 CC SB about 6 weeks ago, after spending the last 7 years driving Fords. I really don't know a great deal about the Dodge's except the Cummins engines are supposed to be first rate!
I installed EGT probes into an aftermarket exhaust downtube of both of my Ford trucks, but this Dodge didn't require a new downtube and the Banks kit I bought instructs me to drill a hole into the manifold on the Dodge I now have.
The area to work seems a little too tight for a drill motor and a 7/16" drill bit also. Also are there any pre-drilled holes in the factory exhaust manifold that could be used? Thanks for any help you can give.

I drilled my manifold just forward of the collector. Right on top, basically in the middle between cylinders 3 & 4. No pre-tapped holes on a Cummins (unless equiped with the Jacobs, which would be post turbo). You want to run pre-turbo rather than post for the most accurate idea of whats going on in your engine. Easy to drill, tap and I stuck a small magnet in the manifold to get the chips. Any chips I didn't get blew safely out the exhaust side of the turbo and out the back.
hey welcome to the site, this place rocks, there are some real smart dudes here that can answer any questions u have.u made the right choice on the dodge and this site.u should be able to get a cordless drill in there and some guys say put some vaseline on the bit just before it goes thru.then get a vacum cleaner and tape a small pipe or somtning that will fit in the hole ontl the nozzle and suck out anything that may have gotten in there.same when tapping, use some vaseline on the tap and take ur time.
I put mine by the #5 cylinder as the back ones are supposed to be the hottest. A little back of the collecter also helps to make sure you don't drop any shavings down the collector before you can suck/magnet them out. Good luck you should really enjoy this one after playing with Fords!

Thanks everyone for the advice on location and installation, I'm towing my family and 5th wheel to Gulf Shores this Friday. Maybe I'll get the probe installed before then.....
