Internal Engine Upgrades
Internal Engine Upgrades
Im fairly new to diesels and cumminse so excuse me ignorance. If i was theoretically going to push the horsepower limits for racing (800 - 1000HP) what internal engine upgrades would i need? such a pistons, heads, camshafts, crankshafts? Also would the rear ends handle that much horse. I do realize engine upgrades would be needed.
p.s. im reffering to a new common rail engine, not my pickup

I don't know if anybody has been able to push a cr cummins anywhere near that high yet. You have to control timing to get numbers that high and we are still waiting for our timing boxes. These diffs are new to this body style so nobody has pushed them that high either. Brian might have the best suggestion, if you want that kind of power a 24 valve would probably be better, but nothing making 800hp is going to be cheap.

The only way to make that HP is with a P-pump from a 12-valve, which I've heard someone has done already.
Internally to go 800+ HP requires O-ringing the block or head, significant head porting, possibly upgraded valves, camshaft, and ceramic coated marine or RV pistons (or the stockers). Some use a mains girdle too or at least a stud kit for the mains in addition to the head.
Stock rods and crank should be fine.
