internal engine mods?

Well i have a new plan. I'm gonna fix a few little things on my truck right now and then just start savin my money up and hopefully this next summer I will have enough money to do some serious work to it. I plan on pullin the whole motor out, and takin the tranny out too, sendin the tranny to get done, and sendin the body to get repainted, and mod my motor. I want to pull the motor out and pull the pan, check the crank bearings and check everything over and make sure its okay, kill the KDP, Port and polish the head, with head studs/ O-rings, and probably paint the whole engine. And i was thinkin while i had the motor out, might as well look into other things i could do to it to get a little more power. I was gonna look into a stroker kit or maybe borin it out. What else could i do to it? It has 240k, and i wasn't really plannin on rebuildin it unless it looks like i need to, but might as well go big or go home. Any ideas on what all i should do?

Better save lots of money up. It aint all that cheap to go threw a cummins - even if ya just ring it and toss a set of rod bearings in it. I got some money wrapped up in mine and I didnt do anything to the pump or the injectors - if resetting pop pressures counts.

Probally be better off if ya just do the topend and the trans. Pull the bottom end out if ya hurt it, then rebuild it.

You will also find you will need a bigger turbo - again

If you got it out you might as well roll some new rod and main bearings in it, I would dump the I/C pistons and toss in some Industrials

I wouldn't bore it unless you gotta clean up a score or scratch in the cylinder.

Machine work is easy, so is porting. Cummins heads are kinda a pain tho - heavy and time consuming. I just got my head / lower end finished a few months ago and am working on another for a buddies p pump truck.

It also helps I work a speed shop and part time in a diesel shop.

I found one place on google that does "Stage" 1-4 work for the 12V heads. prices were $850 to $1960.00. None of their stages included a PnP though.

P&P is not that big a deal. Have done it since the early 80's. I do head O rings in house. BHJ head O ring tooling. There is no magic in porting and polishing, IF its done right. You have to find someone that knows what to do/not to do...

You may consider throwing a camshaft in it while its out too.

Better(wider) bowl design similar but better than a N/IC piston also and the distance fom the top ring to the top of the piston is a smidge taller also

You can get em from your local Cummins dealer, Sometime you'll see em on ebay also. I'll see if I can dig up a part# but if you do a search it shouldn't be to hard to find

If i changed the pistons, I could run 2nd gen tipped injectors right???

I could maybe do the porting myself, and if not, I know of a few places or people that could do the porting and the head work for a pretty good price.

I'm gonna call freedom diesel tommorrow and see what they have to say about the stroker kit for a 5.9 cummins. I am really curious about this. I know if i did something like this, I'd be pretty much the only one in my area that has done internal engine mods to my cummins. I'm sick of all these guys that have a chip, injectors and exhaust and claim to have 600hp and don't do crap or know crap about the motors. I wanna build somethin mean internally that no one will know about, but stay VE pumped.
