Intake question

Working on a small budget and considering these two intakes but not sure which way to go. Can anyone who has had these please let me know your expirience with them? I like the look of the S&B but hp and torque gains are small (3 hp and 10 ft lbs torque on dyno) K&N claims 11 hp gain and 20 ft lbs torque. K&N is open design where S&B is closed box w optional cold air scoop. Also which would give a better sound?

My truck is an 05 all stock for now, only exception is it is straight pipe from resonator back.

Neither, stock with a Napa gold filter. If you want noise check out the ****** Wistler thread.

I have a S&B works great, I would not put a k&n on my truck, there was a write up in one of the diesel mags, they tested differant cold air intakes, the most they saw out of any of them was around 3 HP gain, I bought mine just to let the truck breath better while towing, drill the bottom of the stock box and add a 4" drop in filter and it will be just as good.

I have a spectre filter in the stock box now, didnt notice any difference at all. I will be installing a tuner in the next few weeks as well and they all reccomend a CAI to get more air.

They can recommend it all they want it's just not worth it at the near stock hp level. If you want one of the two the SB seems to be the better choice.

just get a psm or home depot kit and the deep pleat stock filter. many times better than the above. if you want the very best get a stock 6.7 box and filter and the psm lit

+another for the home depot/psm stock airbox mod. Genos Garage did a test of air filters and boxes. There's no reason to spend money on an aftermarket air filter kit as they give you no great gains.
