Installing 6" lift myself. Any recommendations????
Installing 6" lift myself. Any recommendations????
Hey all, you guys have been extremely helpful thus far in my hunt on a life, and I think I'm going to be very happy with the choice I made. I went with a 6" standard BDS lift with the transfer case relocation. I'm reading over these instructions, and it really does seem like cake. Just may take some time to do it all right. Anyways, the only part that seems remotely complicated would be the drilling of the holes for the relocation brackets for the control arms, which I don't even think looks that tough.
Now for all you guys who have done these lifts before, what should I watch out for. Any tips or pointers that you guys would recommend. Anything you all would steer clear of doing?
I appreciate all your help guys, Thank You
Chris

not that hard.
i have put 2 of them on. it should only take about 5-6 hrs. if you dont have a hoist. easy way is to get the jackstands under the frame under the front doors high enough that the front axel with out the tires is off of the ground. and the bolt for the top controll arm on the pass side take the nut off and slide it out until it hits the exhaust and cut it off with a hack saw. it is easier than taking the exhaust off. take the sway bar end links, drag link for the steering, track bar, and shocks off first, it will make life alot better. then connect them after the coils control arms and bracketry are inplace. you will need a pitman arm puller. or diegrinder chisel and hammer. take the calipers of when you drill for the brackets. unless you have a 90 degree drill.
definetly not as hard as it looks.

take your exhaust off first, nothing makes you madder
than the first time you lift a dodge and the exhaust is in the way of the bolt for the top trailing bar on pass side. so just be prepaired for that. also shock tower on driverside is a little difficult to monover around the battery and two hard lines. you dont have to take the batt out you just have to kinda rotate the tower till you get it, its like a puzzle. this is my forth time lifting my truck so this time i made a plate like in the pic. to make things way easyer and also gives you 3.5 inches more of travel on the shock.

The hardest part for me was the pitman arm and lining the longer control arms and trackbar up. I broke two pullers trying to get the pitman arm off and you also have to grind the puller a little so it will fit around the pitman arm. I did my 5" lift in my driveway and it took about 12 hours total. It was the first lift I have done of any kind. If I had to do it over again I could probably do it in about half that time.
