Injector Knock?

My truck sat for about 2 weeks and when istarted it up I noticed a ticking noise I never heard before. Only at idle did I notice it. Later after running on the highway it went away and never came back. Was this the injector knock? I've heard of injector problems on some of these trucks. How do you identify it?

It doesn't sound like an injector knock, to me. I had it in my '03.

It sounds like one of the injectors is not doing the pilot injection thing. Delivering multiple shots of fuel per combustion event. That's what makes it quiet. The explosion is spread out over a wide area instead of just one big "bang" that you would get in the first & second Gen. engines.

The knock also seems to occur between idle & about 1400 rpm's., and when you put a load on it. Not so pronounced when the engine is idleing or not working.

This has been my experience.

Hope this helps.

I had a ticking that I was afraid might be an injector. I started poking around, and found a loose clamp on an injector line. Fixed the problem.

I do not know if I have the symptoms of an injector knock. On idle and cold engine, everything seems fine, typical clatter. I kind of notice a distinct tap when the truck warms up to full temp and then when I put in drive and then @ about 1100 rpms, I hear a tap, tap, tap...but once over 1100 it's gone. Sometimes it does, sometimes it don't. Any RPM above/below, it does not do it, only 1100, idle no tap. Milage is great, power is there, no smoke, no wierd symptoms. Tell you the truth, I do not remember if it's always been there or not when I sifted. Reading these posts made me wonder about and I guess pay more attention to it now. I have 26k on the truck and noticed that after about 15k, the diesel, to me, sound more clattery. I know darn well if I take it in for it, one it may not be there, and two "Oh that is typical for a diesel". Everytime I go in for my oil change I ask how it sounds, their reply "Sounds like a diesel". One more note, I've ran Standyne since day one on this truck too. Is it knock? I do not know, might be, might not.

my truck ticks too but only when it is cold, once it comes up to temp the tick is gone. come to think of it the ticking goes away in about 5 mins max. i think its a common thing for our trucks, because my truck too runs great and acts normal (now that DC put 3 new injectors in the truck)
