Indash flip out DVD/Nav units?
Yeah Price dog you would be better off getting the double din, then with navi it will have a hard drive to store much more memory. That would work good with an 06-07. Only reason I had to go single din was because going double din would require me hacking into my plastic around the radio, something that can't be undone. Other than that I would've gone with the double din. This is coming from someone who has experienced the dreaded flap motor crapout. But my N4 is performing flawlessly (1 year now), especially with the lockout bypass complete.
i understand that cutting behind the trim bezel would be required to put a double din unit in my truck but will the newer navi trim bezels match up to the older model trucks in all other aspects?
I do believe the 04 trucks were offered with the nav system. check with your local dealer. Im not sure it the newer bezels will work. didnt they redesign the radio in the 06? im not sure when they did. My buddy at work as an 05 1500 and his dash is not at all like mine, but i don't know if that may be a difference between the 1500 and the 2500/3500. if your year truck was offered with the nav you should not have to do any cutting behind the bezel, just remove the pocket under the radio and change the bezel, again, if it is avail. if they didn't offer the nav system, you may run into problems trying to get it to fit.

Pre 06 Navi units were 1.5 din. Only the 06 and up models can you get the nav bezel and fit a Double din. The interior change was for 06 year models and the bezels will not even come close to fitting in the earlier trucks.
Thanks for all the responses guys. I guess I didn't realize there were really any functional advantages to having a double din unit as opposed to the single - except that more moving parts always means more to go wrong. It sure seems like you can get a larger screen with a single din flip out, but I guess I've been a few inches short my whole life so why change now
Anyone had a single din and a double din? Which did you like better?
Rip - So even with the single din you've got now, you'd still go double din over single din with the '06 trim package?

Thomas, I would prefer the double din over the single mainly for the hard drive (memory capabilities) It kinda sucks having to put in the navi dvd everytime I want to look up a new vicinity. I love my N4 for what it is, it has been the best flip screen out of 4 that I've had. They get better every year.
My N4 is a 7" screen, the N-2 I had was 6.5".
One more thing that I like about the flap screens are they hide away when needed, they seem a little more theft deterrent.

I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 2500. My friend has an 08 1500. He got a flipout tv installed and when it opens it will hit the dash and will not come completely up...any solutions?
I am not into the AV stuff very much but this is what I did, I had two 9 inch head rest screens installed for the back seat, comes with headphones if you want to listen to the radio while the kids are watching movies in the back or if you want to listen to the movie thru the speakers just turn on the FM modulator and everyone can hear whats going on. I have a stock nav unit which suits me fine, only thing I don't like about it is it will not accept the XM, but it is mounted nicely and looks factory.
On my screen there is an adjustment option to allow the screen to stick out more or adjust the angle to clear. I'd look for that first.
Hello,
The pioneer pioneer avic-z110bt has a 7" screen in the double din size. It is motorized but just to access the SD card slot. So it normally stays put. It also runs on windows CE. So it is a mini computer that can be hacked into and all kinds of things modified. There is a web site for people who want to just that. You can usually pick up the correct bezel on ebay for 100 to 150 bucks.
