Impressions on SPS6280 and SBC DD
Well finally got 2000 miles of driving on my new turbo and SBC DD. All in 7 days woohoo.
First off it is still winter up here, so i use SMARTY WILD #9 , and havent stacked the dr.p as of yet. I will be dynoing on thursday (DJ and mustang) and i will stack then.
The clutch is EXTREMELY sticky, meaning alot of clamping power. Tried a 3rd gear launch, and all 4 tires let me know they were unhappy with the situation!! But for being such a strang clutch it is a really soft pedal (read slightly stiffer than stock), and is really smooth under normal driving conditions, but start rowing through the gears and she lets you know that it clamps, and clamps hard!!
The turbo is amazing, spool is just as quick as stock, but 47 psi comes in a flash (w/g is setup there). Really improved the top end, and egt's are WAY DOWN. Plus the song it sings is much sweeter than the stocker! I could not compare apples too apples because the stock clutch could not hang on with #9, so i ran #5 with stock turbo.
Stock Turbo (#5) vs. SPS (#9)
Cruise - Stocker - 70 mph, 8 psi, 550*F
SPS6280 - 70 mph, 4 psi, 550*F
WOT - Stocker - 42 psi, 1500*F (had too shut down at 80 mph due too egt's)
SPS6280 - 47 psi, 1180*F @ 110 mph.
Needless too say this turbo is a godsend, and i cant say enough good things about it!! Sorry for the long thread, just excited is all!!

I cant believe your clutch is slightly stiffer than stock. Mine to me is about 50% stiffer. Did you get the rigid or sprung DD?
Glad to hear you are happy. I look forward to your dyno #s too.

Ram that has the 62mm tip on it right? Was it hard to install? Also did you buy their boost fooler plug or did you make one or buy from somewhere else... Also how is the surge? Horrible or like stock? Are you thinking of studs in the future? At 47psi thats right at the iffy point aint it? Sorry for the mile of questions.

Pyro is mounted pre- turbo.
I have the sprung hub DD with the 3600# plate load, and percentage wise i would put it at 30% stiffer than stock, I am 270 pounds so I may not notice stiffness as easily as someone lighter than i am.
I had it installed at the smae time as the clutch, figured if they were ganna have the tranny out, it would be easier too have the shop do the turbo.
And yes i do plan on studs in the near future, 47 is on that fine line, but studs will be in by summer time.
NO boost fooler of any kind, I have the smarty with aftermarket turbo programming which disables the electronic w/g, and does not throw overboost codes.

Yeah Im going for the SPS62 as well once I square away the studs and springs. Im HG only has 15k on it with mods, so I think I should be ok for awhile with that and no 0-rings.

So whats the difference between the sps62 and the sps66?? I'm not saying i wanna make all the hp in the world but i dont want it to become to small to fast ya know..
My main problem is i'm never happy when it come to mods..
I'll never drag it or race it or anything like that, its just gonna be a daily driven toy..
I just want it to spool up quickly thats my only concern is the spool up..
The cam and springs and headstuds and blancer and 50hp injectors aand a fuel system and a modded cp3 all go on in March, then i'll upgrade the programmer to either a smarty and mp8 or somthing else...

Keyser, go with the sps 6280, It will most likely be all the turbo you will ever need, and if you ever do out grow it, II will upgrade it to a 66 for a nominal charge. I put down 632 hp with a silver 62, which is kind of a super sps 6280, you WILL be happy with that turbo.. One thing you US guys should look at some of the Canadian companies to buy your stuff, as your dollar is worth more than ours,, might work out for you,, not sure
