Just realized this question probably should have gone here...
========================================
I finally got the CTD home and start cleaning her up.
BUT, while I'm cleaning up the engine bay I finally get a chance to see what came with the truck, original owner said he installed a power module...Turns out its a Predator stage IV.
So I look this up on the web and it says for "Off road use only"...
Whats the scoop on this? Is this a good thing or a bad thing? I would like a bit more HP & Torque, But honestly I'm not pulling, shes being used to commute loaded with passengers not trailers. I need better MPG...So far, not hand calc'ed just by the overhead- I'm averaging 19.4- 19.5 MPG in mixed driving...
I've got a friend thats hitting 22MPG...That my goal...Can I get there?
It seems this performance module is geared more for max gains in performance , not MPG...
Any ideas?
Thanks

Ok,
But is a stage IV the best thing for mileage?
Wouldn't I really have to do the Intake / Exhaust (if not more) to see any real benefits from a stage IV power module?
Would I be better off with a lower module to just increase MPG????
'remember- I'm hauling people, not trailers. And in the winter I'll be racking up ~80 miles per day...

Kutch, The Stage IV is a performance chip not a mileage chip.
Check on posts for "best mileage boxes" if you want a ton of bs from guys with 8000 # 28mpg trucks that drive at 90mph.
With the box on....there is usually a switch in cab... the overhead is going to be way off. Filling these trucks to the top of the spout to measure mileage takes 10minutes if you don't have the tank vent kit.
There are lots of Cummins trucks that can get 24mpg on a regular basis.....they are 6 speed 2wd 3.73 or 2gen 3.55 regular cabs with street tires at 80psi and they don't go over 65mph.
I have a one ton dually with an auto 4wd mud tires flat bumper and I can get 21.5 mpg if I drive with an egg under the accelerator, lug the truck alot at 1700 rpm keeping it under 60mph with all boxes set to timing only. But the truck hates it and so do I so I drive 65 or 70 mph and pass everything that gets in front of my bumper and I get 17 to 19 mpg. everytime. If I drive it like I stole it I get 15 to 17mpg. ks

I finally got a chance to do my first hand calc.
It was only after I used my first 1/4 tank and in mixed driving but it came out to 18.3 MPG. (The overhead has been telling me 19.4-19.5) Thats driving with the "egg under the foot" around town and 65-70 MPH on the highway with cruise. No quick starts and just coasting to stops...
If I could get a solid 21MPG I'd be happy camper...And fuel drops to $1/gal...
On that note...Seems fuel prices are dropping a bit...2.67 at Hess in Glens Falls NY. "election season"...Betcha' it all goes back up right after...Hum...

Argo, are you telling me that if I take the Stage IV out I will see a raise in my MPG??? I drove around without it for a day and yes I can feel the difference. But if it raises the MPG a couple...I may be selling something in the near future.
I thought that "all" power modules would help "somewhat" with MPG????
