Exclamation I really could use some HELP!!!

2003 auto cummins - stock turbo

I was trying to fine tune my Newly Downloaded REVOTnt program, and @ wide open throttle the turbo went POP!!!! The front fins of the Turbo are now resting in the cone of my air filter...I let the truck coast down the gateway for about 1/4 mile before I could pull off the road. I had to have my friend with a freakin EXCURSION tow me home to add icing to the cake. I started the truck to see if the motor idles smooth but its missing, It would idle then miss, idle then miss in about 2 second intervals. I hope its just because of the turbo, and not because there is motor damage.

What do i do?????

Pull valve cover and make sure all valves are present? $$$Remove head to check pistons?$$$$$$REplace intercooler????

CAN I MAKE AN INSURANCE CLAIM???what would the excuse be? I dont exacly have a rat in my intake like the other guy.

pull the head and check things out. pieces if that turbo can make their way to the pistons.

I am not very mechanically inclined..That would entail alot of work for me...How heavy is the head? Do the intake rockers come off easy like the exhaust rockers? I replaced the inkectors and that was fairly easy...But the whole head? what about just taking off the turbo tomorrow and checking to see if the truck misses?

I would say at least you will need a new turbo and intercooler but like justin said best to pull the head to see if any metal made it that far. you can pull the head and reinstall it for under 100.00 in parts.( if no damage)

parts needed head gasket. pull manifold and turbo, rockers, injectors, alternator, belt, rail, intak e horn, fuel filter housing, push rods, and head bolts. white smoke may be from the turbo( bad oil seal) or bad valve in head.

count the missing parts and see if there accounted for, then you wont have to worry as much.if possible

Don't start the engine again until you fix the problem, you are taking a chance of sucking parts of the broken turbo into the engine and destroying it.

counting turbo parts is out of the question. It literally is in 1000000 peices.

Why does the truck have a miss in the idle? Can I just disconnect the turbo off of the manifold, and the intake horn, and listen to the idle to see if I can hear a dropped valve, or Do I just take off the cover and see if i can tell if anything is dropped?

I dont know if I can pull the head...Is it heavy? what do i pick it up with?

LMAO!!!! The reason you have a miss at idle is because you just put "1000000 peiceses" of your turbo through your engine! Sorry to laugh but like Larry said DO NOT START YOUR ENGINE!!! You have done major damage and if you don't think you have the experience or the tools to properly diagnosys and fix please TOW it to a good diesel mechanic. Either way I think you've got a big bill awaiting you. Good luck

Use a cherry picker, like they said DONT START anymore, How long did you have it running after the turbo popped?, Id say oil is going starit threw the turbo and the heat from the exhaust is causing the white smoke, Chill out bud use your head.

The rough idle I noted was when I was on the side of the road analyzing the damage. .. I heard it pop and I just coasted the truck about one minute to get off the road, I didnt give it anymore pedal.

Im a part time college student, if I could affored a mechanic I would. Besides where I live, there isnt anyone reliable. Or I would be talking to them.

Can I just remove the intercooler boot so it doesnt suck in anything from the horn, and unbolt the turbo from the manifold to test the idle? Or should I try and take the head off, clean it out ( if nothing is damaged), order a banks intercooler, and a s300/400 twin set. and call it a day? if i dropped a valve...do i need to replace the head, and piston alont with resleeving that piston. Or try and find a whole complete used motor to drop in...what does it cost to rebuild something like this? I am lost for solutions basically because I dont know the extent of the damage. If I pull the valve cover, can I tell if there is a missing valve?

dont run the motor at all you will screw something up more if you do. if you have any mechanical ability you can remove the head and it will take 2 people to lift it out of the truck. if you dropped a valve it will knock and blow back cuz thats what my 03 did. if youhave oil in the intercooler it can be cleaned out along wwith the rest of the air tubes

You don't want to pay for a mechanic, but want to spend 5K in replacement parts???

I would pull the intercooler and look and see if there are metal pieces in the intake side... Then pull the intake horn and look in there... Chances are you sucked metal thru the motor... don't worry about your idle until you know if there is metal in the motor... test your idle after you make sure there is no metal, have a new i/c and turbo.
