HTS tranny install.(full write-up....Long)

I got my Hts tranny in. I went with everything minus the billet output shaft. Also went with there triple disc converter.

I did the install of my tranny. For everyone that is up in the air about doing it yourself. Don't let anyone fool you. It is a job. But not too hard. I started off by of course pulling the drive shafts, skid plate, oil lines, and electrical connections. Then had to build a plate for my floor jack to strap the tranny to(as I did not have a real tranny jack). I then straped it all to the jack and pulled out the cross member. Then took out the bolts that go from the bell housing to the motor. Note: a lot of 3/8's extensions and a swivle will make that part easy. Next is when it got interesting as I have never pulled a auto tranny before just standards. So I started pulling the tranny back, still with the transfer case attached. I got it all out and on the ground. Then I couldn't figure out how to pull the TC out. So I called Dusty at HTS. He guide me through it. It was easy just pull the cover off the front passenger side of the motor. Then start taking out the bolts. You will have to rotate the motor to get to all of then. I did that by using a prybar on the flexplate. Dusty all so informed me that you are actually supposed to leave the TC on Tranny when you pull it. Next I pulled the flexplate off. The only thing I would have done different is pull the transfer case off the tranny before I pulled the tranny.
Then the install went much easier than the tear down. I put the new tranny in with TC installed on it. Much easier. Then just bolted everyhting back up. I also used loctite on the bolts that hold the flexplate to the motor and flexplate to TC. Also before I hooked the tranny cooler lines back I blew threw then to get all the old oil out.
Next I poured the fluid in. I used valvoline fully synthetic. I filled it with 6 quarts and started it in neutral. Then added 1 more quart. It showed full on the dip stick. So I put the truck in gear, It would not move. So I called Dusty back. He said that it did not have enough fluid in it. He didnt care what the dip stick said. He it should take atleast 14 quarts. So I added another 7 quarts and let it run in nuetral for a little while. Then ended up adding 1 more quart for a total of 15 quarts. I also had to reset the shift lever cable. It is under the dash. Just pull the white clip out and pull the spring down a couple of times. It sets itself.
Drove about 100 miles letting it shift a lot to make sure everyhting was good, then I let her rip. Let me say this thing is awsome. No slip, nice firm shifts, and no more revving to over 2000 rpm while driving around town. I also dowloaded the wild TQ managment on level 7.
Kinda off topic, but I also loaded the Smarty setting for a aftermarket turbo( I am running a stock one). It is nice. It will spike at about 45psi then drop down to about 35 pretty quick. I am sure it could be hard on the turbo if you don't respect it.

Hope some of you get some good info. from this post. I know alot of yall already knew all of what I just said. But It was more for the average mechanic like myself, thats is up in the air about swapping there tranny themselves vereses paying someone else to do it.

Bottom line I am glad I spent the money on the Tranny. Dusty and Mariann at HTS are great people to deal with. And they build a awsome tranny. I am also glad I did the install myself.

i had mine installed last weds. and its awesome. you cant beat their customer service either. when I call they answer.I have a friend that is getting their tranny next week. He says they are very nice to him as well. I am pleased with mine and I dont regret spending the money. I would for sure buy another tranny from them. I have spoke to hts many times and they have never pressured me into buying anything. they just told me let us know when youre ready and we will fix you up. No automated systems like all the big companies have. A person answers the phone. thats old school and awesome right there.

Need to get mine done just waiting. I have to make a run to California to pickup a jeep to fix for my brother who cracked his block. Then I will be getting it done.

Great write-up! I love my HTS tranny more everyday. Best single mod I've done to the truck....

I also can't say enough about Dusty and Marianne. I can't wait till I have another truck that needs a tranny so I can drive to Michigan again...It wont be for my yellow truck because they flat out do not break! Not one person (that knows anything about trucks) has rode in my truck and not commented on how well the tranny performs.

Your right on the good people and the tranny. Doubt that you'll find better people or a better tranny.

Legend? You are correct on that, and I also believe Al was a Dodge man also.
