A $4000 muffler with 2 turbines in it.

Even just an aftermarket turbo with a pulseflow manifold makes a big difference but there is still a slight rasp at WOT high RPM.

The muffler I use has eliminated the raspy rough sound. Its still got a semi-loud tone, sounds better than anything i've tried or heard on Cummins. I have a video clip if you want to hear, but its on stacks. The muffler is awesome though, and not very big, so it'll fit in any position. I use the twister race Muffler.

oh yeah.... MBRP, AERO, AFE, most quality mufflers will nearly eliminate the rasp. I thought you were talking about the bad rasp when straight piping with a stock turbo.

Most ppl stated the 2nd gen manifold would make it sound more like a 2nd gen 24 valve. Bigger turbos will also create that effect. As far as the raspy noise, a quality muffler will handle it.

Also make sure the exhaust is hanging properly. If it is binding at all it will have more of raspy sound to it.

I talked with a buddy runnin a Silver bullet on an 05 (and a lot of other stuff) and he went from an ATS 3rd gen manifold and SPS 66 to a 2nd gen and Silver bullet and he said his tone didnt change much if any.

And the 2nd gen manifold is kind of a headache to get to work so..... piont is, you may be just as well to run an aftermarket 3rd gen manifold, and as stated bigger turbo(s)

Or, if you dont want to straight pipe get a good muffler.

With my SPS 66, and 5" straight pipe it only gets raspy way up in the rpms, and even then its not bad at all, nothin like a 4" and factory turbo, I dont even know if I would call it raspy, just a little higher pitch than I would like.

This works great with a 4" Magnaflow or a 4" HushPower. Gives a real "ballsy" sound. It wil also wake the neighbors.

If you have 4" now just get a stock resonator from a MegaCab. It will keep the nice deep tone and have no raspy sound.

Another option is to buy a big diesel muffler with the straight-through design. Donaldson mufflers are pretty cheap and they work great without hurting performance.
