NAVMAN28 you are so right about fuel milage i have an 07 ctd and my milage is from 9.9mpg pulling 24430lbs gvcw to 23mpg running empty down the hwy traveling 60mph for 582miles on a flat hwy.All thoughs figures have been figured out with properly NOT guessing the mileage , but my average fuel in town is 19/20 mpg so like you said 25/30 mpg is BULL S!!! my believe to get milage is longer legs and more power but thats for the yuphees that like to pack golf clubs.

1. getting the 3.43 gears and running 40" tires.
2. They have the new 6sp auto tranny with larger tires
But even with that, it wont help in fuel economy. Just because you lower your RPM doesnt mean better fuel mileage, there is a good chance they are lugging the engine. The ecm will put more fuel in without adding the extra boost needed.
I figured the same thing when he said 1600 rpms. My first thought was that he would end up doing more damage then have benefit considering how much he would be loading up the engine. The keyword to Cummins Turbo Diesel is the Turbo there imo, if you're not using the turbo you're not using the benefits of the engine.

His dad did have the auto-6spd, but regardless I felt skeptical, hence me asking for reassurance in my thought process here on DTR.com.

Thanks for the thoughts!

To get better mileage as well, you would need a air dam on the front of your truck and it would need to be as low as possible. I've seen some that are remote control and can be lowered when you are on the highway and raised in town to keep from damaging it.

Any chance for a link? Not something I think I would want on my truck (or be willing to pay for), but sounds sweet. Pure curiosity...

I have a 2003 and I average 22 MPG. I used to get a consistant 20 MPG before I added a cold air intake and the Smarty Jr. I usually don't go much of 65 MPH, when I do it drops down between 18-20 depending on the speed. HTH.

I'm getting a little frustrated with you guys who keep bringing up the cam swap issue....getting on my nerves.
Because now I want one.

My old man has a 2007 crew cab SB 4x4 6.0 ford, he recently averaged 19 mpg hand calc from Boston to Tucson driving speed limit +5. That's about equal to what my Cummins gets. His isn't getting quite as high as my Cummins in town, about 15 mpg to my 17 mpg. Both trucks have about the same mileage (35K), same tires, no mods. I do prefer the transmission in the Ford, but the power in the Cummins.

I was getting 900km on a tank with my truck before i added 90hp injectors running 285 tires.
900km= intake, 4 inch exhaust, Edge with attitude on level 1, FASS 150.

I just added 35 inch procomp Xtreme ATs and the new 90hp nozzles, and now i am getting 780km on a tank. EGT went up, I think when I get twins and intercooler my miliage will increase if i control that heavy foot

Well my new to me STOCK mega cab is only getting an average of 14mpg hand calculated in town. I drive like a grandpa. Its got 37K on the clock. I have never owned a stock truck but I was hoping for 16 in town. Heck my 06Phat girl was a dually turning 750hp rolling on 22.5's and I was getting 13+ in town even when I drove it hard. Guess a cam, and some added timing really can make a big difference. This one is staying stock till 100K so I guess I just have to suck it up and realize I have a truck that drinks too much .

Ive seen a lot of talk about replacing the air box with a cold air intake and the intake manifold bringing 1-2 MPGs each, but what if you were to replace the entire air system (air box, INTERCOOLER and manifold, would there be any kind of extra bonus for the trifecta?

Smile Mileage Booster - Easy

I'm running an '03 cummins - 24v 4x4 with 35" BFG A/Ts. 4" turbo back and a Ranch Hand full replacement front bump/grill guard. Automatic Trans.
Pyro, Boost and Trans Temp Gauges

I'm meticulous about hand calculating my mileage. Over the past 11,400 miles I've averaged 14.5 mpg. In town about 14 And hwy about 15.

Last week I purchased a Smarty S06. I've run it on every setting and this is what works best for me.
SW1, timing 2, rail pressure 2, torque 2.
With that setting I boosted my hwy mileage to 25.46 mpg at 75mph. Yesterday I installed an S&B cold air intake. Over the past 200 miles I've driven since, all hwy, I filled up this morning and averaged 26.7mpg. At 75 mph constant.

I have yet to calculate in town.
Be careful with your programmer. You can blow your Trans. I've tried Bullydog, and Super Chip. Neither increased my mileage.

Keep your foot out of it. Slow accelerations.
