how many quarts of fluid for the 48RE?

ok I drained my fluid to do a filter/fluid change on my transmission. its a 48re auto with a double deep mag-hytec pan. I didnt drain the convertor just took the pan off to get to the filter and drained the pan and cleaned it out. I looked for other threads before posting so ive got a couple different answers. I know the deep pan adds 4 more quarts to the capacity I just dont want to overfill it is why im asking. thank you for any answers

I put in about 9 quarts or so and quit for the evening. I was told about 20-24 but I think that is if the tranny is completely empty along with the converter

9 quarts sounds about right. I have the non-double deep Mag pan and after draining the pan and changing the filter it took 6 qts to fill it up to the high side of full.

That is about right, with a MH double deep pan and you are only draining, dropping pan, replacing filter, reinstalling and adding back the lost fluid.

Completely drained I put in 19 quarts. I have a deep ATS pan. This includes filling the torque converter.

I would say 16 quarts if torque converter is full. Depends on the torque converter, too.

well Im not master mechanic and never claimed to be. I go drive it some and try and get it warm then check it running in neutral like it says then it will show OK then I put the stick back in and its showing nothing. its little dumb stuff that holds me up. I talked to marianne @ hts and she said 20-24 and I know it filled my drain pan up when we drained it. they know more than me but that sounds a bit much. I guess I better keep adding some fluid and just keep checking it.

I had some extras but I bought about twenty or so quarts at meijer. I like to have extras just in case. I hate going to the store anymore I would rather just buy extra and have it around. thanks for the help
