How low should your egt's before
You bet I care about egt's.
Nope, it's a good poll. We can see how many actually post in the over 400 and don't care options.
Well i like donuts, but i guess someone beat me to it. I was trying to be original. As far as my egts, I couldnt tell you yet since my gauges arent here yet, but i usually let it idle for about 5 minuts before shutdown
There is no need to let it cool to 300, honestly anything below 400 is good. And with a good aftermarket turbo even that is less needed. The reason to let the egts cool down is so that oil wont coke up inside your turbo, which will cause in a turbo that has lesser tolerances to wear. But the oil doesent really coke up unless you are pushing it hard and have it to an allmost boiling point. When you have pushed it hard, say around 1000* or more for an extended period of time, not only is the oil red hot, so is the turbo.... so now if you were to shut it down to early (say at around 5 or 600*) the turbo would still be hot, and so would the oil. This will then cause coking inside the races of the turbine wheel. But if you havent pushed your turbo hard, so lets say you were cruising around, and your egt's were around 800* and you stop, usually that means you were just taking it easy, the turbo wont have the heat permeated as deep into it,, hence it takes way less time to cool the turbo,, also the chances of coking are greatly diminished... So I guess what I am trying to get accross with all this ramble is that by the time your turbo has reached <400* there is little or no chance of coking, all the heat from the turbo will have disappeared. Leaving it to 300 or less is just a monumental waste of fuel, and will not have any positive value for your turbo, and if anything will decrease the life of your engine slightly from excessive idleing. I have a turbo timer that is based on temp, I have it set for 350, but I dont have any problems shutting down anywheres between 350 and 400

I don't know how you guys get it to 300*?? My 2 egt probes must both be off, I never see 300* even if it idles for 10-15mins. I beat the @#$% out of my last turbo, 1600*+ pulls and the wife shut her down HOT all the time. When I pulled that turbo, the internals were in perfect condition, no caked on anything. I couldn't believe it w/ 87000 HARD miles on it. I think these turbos are a little more resilient than most of us think.
That is exactly what I was trying to get accross tcr. Going down to 300 is a monumental waste of fuel. When I changed my turbo on my truck I looked at the stock one, I had pulled heavy with it, didnt have a pyro, and same thing wife would shut down hot all the time. And after 60k miles it was still perfect, no signs of any damage whatsoever
