how to dyno??
how to dyno??
Greetings again,
im about to run a dyno on my mild setup.
question is.. HOW??
i dont want to look likea total Dousche ...
I have an Auto what gears do you use? OD on or Off?
do you just mash the pedal? or from dead stop?

what a average price to pay?

Here is what I do. I get moving and get the speedo up to 70mph in 4th gear (OD). When the operator says "hit it", I mash the peddle and go up to around 120mph and it's done.
It shouldn't shift down if you are going 70+ when you start.
Usually you can get 3 runs for $50-$75.

I have ran mine in OD and with the OD locked out... If you have a lock up switch, that is the best way. I have paid anything from 50-75 for 3 runs.
I would turn the OD off, get it up to about 70, and then hit it when the dyno guy says so.
If you want to cheat a little, hold the brake down a little and build some boost before you tell him to go. Let off the brake when he says go, and stand on it.
Here's a vid for you...
Just look at the last 20 seconds, I had the camera on the speedo and such...

At BD Dyno days the guy running the dyno runs the trucks for the common folk (like me) but they'll let you run it yourself if you know what you're doing.
Keep in mind they do 60 trucks in the day so they don't have a whole lotta time and it's all free.

I pretty muck just explained it. They don't set the dyno up for each individual truck so the HP results are good but the torque numbers are out to lunch.
If you're paying to have yours done and don't feel confident (I know I wouldn't) I'd think they'd run it for you?

It would really help to know what kind of dyno you'll be running on, a load cell dyno is different than a inertia dyno, which is different from a Mustang dyno.
At LCD we have a load cell dyno, I am the guy who runs the trucks on the dyno for our dyno days, Ill give you a brief explanation on how to run on a load cell dyno.
1. If you have a lock-up switch it helps a bunch for newbies.
Get up to 65-70 mph, tell the operator that your ready for the load, he will begin to load the truck, you'll want about 1/3 of your peak boost before you begin the run, so you need to have him continue to add load until you reach you boost number. Tell him that your ready and wait for his signal then ROLL into the throttle until 1/2 throttle then MASH it and remember to not over-rev the motor.
