I am not up in the 400 HP or over category. So with what I have my tranny is more than up to the task. I do pull heavy ( T-300 Bobcat 10,500lbs + Terramark trailer 2.400lbs = 12,900lbs. I avg tow that weight about 2x a week + a lot of other equipment in my rental yard. Even my Komatsu mini Excavators weigh 8,100lbs and i tow them around 2 to 3 times a week also.

Before my friend's tranny shop rebuilt my tranny I got another opinion and an estimate from Jeff Garmon himself. His shop is about 45 mins south from me. He really knows his stuff. He recomended the same as my tranny guy. Jeff is straight up honest. He was building a 48re for a guy w/ a megacab in his shop that required a $6,500 billet shaft. No expense spaired type rebuild. he also recomended the same style setup as Mike, the only difference was that Jeff has a local guy in Atlanta that builds TC's for him. He also uses suncoast and will use their TC if you want him to. If Mike couldn't do mine, Jeff would have been my second choice to do the work on my tranny. Jeff trained under Joe webb so he knows Dodge, Ford and Chevy.

I don't do boosted lanches, or sled pull. But from what both of them told me, I am good for up to 450HP. which is plenty for my work truck..

A billet shaft for $6500? Is that a typo, did I read it wrong or is someone just a sucker? My total Suncoast tranny, 3 billet shafts and all was $6500+/-. I would just hate to see someone else go through what I did, have some tranny jerk off tell me a converter and vb are good for 450-500HP. They are not, if you USE/WORK your truck!!!! All it takes is 450HP, a heavy load and a heavy foot and those stock internals are going out. Be smart guys, do it right the first time and forget about it.

I second this statement. I was planning on just doing the tc/vb, but after all the research I've done, fully built the first time is the way to go. Just doing a tc/vb (if you're adding a decent amount of power) just means you're going to have a more expensive TC and VB to replace when your tranny grenades.

I have. Shouldn't run anywhere near 10,000 even with all three.

RonP I got billet input and output. Also got a costume made billet drum as well. 48RE VB for 47RE trans with a box of different shift springs so I can play with the shift points when I et home. Tranny has a lot of other billet stuff and is set up for drag racing and pulling. TC is 1k to start with. I can add up to a lot when you want everything.

$6,500 was no misprint for the billet shafts, I am just repeating what he told me he was building for the guy. If you have ever seen Jeffs' trucks run down the dragstrip, you might take some value in what he recomends.

I have seen less billet work on a V-twin engine that costs more than that. I guess everything is relative to what you want to pay for things..

He probably said it was going to be $6500 with billet shafts. I paid $7500 for mine, for billet everything including 3rd drum.

13Fox, I hear ya and make no mistake, I am not knocking you or anything like that. I use all of those parts listed and I just can't see it adding up to that, but maybe they are doing something else.

I am sure it will be a huge improvement. I am rebuilding mine as soon as I get back.

Take care
