I hope my title did a decent job of explaining my idea. I can't find this product anywhere.

I'm looking for something to insert into my receiver that will stick out only about 1", bend 90 degrees straight down, and then have a flat piece welded onto the end. the flat plate will be covered in rubber and be roughly 1 foot by 6 inches.

This way if I'm in a tight parking spot and barely bump someone my receiver won't tear apart the front of their car, instead, it will be a light push, with the force distributed over the area of the welded on flat bar, which is covered in rubber.

anyone seen something like this, or would be interested in one?

it's the same idea as a trailer for a semi trucks has the lower cross bar so that small vehicles (if they rear-end the trailer) don't fly under it.

 

I would think a rear mounted camera would be cheaper.. Regardless of how easy you tap someone's bumper, in most cases their going to complain.

 

LOL! I keep my drop hitch on the back of my truck for just the opposite reason. It definitely keeps people from tailgating me.....
Sorry I can't help you find what you are looking for. I have never seen one of those before on a regular pickup truck.....

My hitch has saved my bumper many times. Had a guy rear-end me in a Jaguar once. Needless to say he needed a new radiator after that one.

This is what I keep on the back of my truck! When I do have to tow, I change it out with my drop hitch and ball. Back when my truck was new, it wasn't two weeks that I had it, when some idiot in a parking lot backed into the tin foil stock bumper I used to have. And of course it was hit and run. I'm careful when I back up in parking lots. I don't bump into other vehicals, and if I did, I'd make it right to the owner. Now if someone hits me and tries to get away, hopefully they'll leave there bumper hooked onto my hook! This thing works real nice pulling folks out that get stuck at the beach around my parts!

 

Let me tell you about the other side of the dilema I think you need to consider,,,,,, my truck in my sig. line, I believe, was LOST due to the drop hitch,,,,, I'll post a pic at the end,,,,

Story goes, sitting in traffic on a freeway inside the Houston area loop,,,, speed limit is 60 mph,,, stopped dead because of a traffic jam, idling, when WHAMM,,,,, I get rear ended,,,, no tires squeeling, no brakes locked up noise, no warning at all,,, dumb women had to be going the speed limit or faster,,, all I can tell you is a Saturn car fits nicely inside a 4" exhaust pipe

The reason I say it cost me my truck is, if I hadn't had the drop hitch in at that time, I really don't think it would have totaled my truck,,,, she hit just of center to the right side, took the drop hitch, which is made of 2" x 2" x 1/4" thick and rolled it almost 360 degrees, back up under and then up into the spare tire

Thats fine in itself, but don't forget the hitch is bolted to both frame rails,,, guess what it did to my right frame rail, yep, doubled it back up under the truck, ripped ther rear leaf spring at the shackle,, I think if the hitch had been out and in the tool box, I really don't think it would have done no where that much frame damage, just to much leverage on the frame with the drop hitch installed,,,, now a regular "bump" in a parking lot, no problem, but I won't leave mine in anymore on my new ride.

At that impact speed your truck still would have been totaled. As long as your okay thats all that matters, as much as we love our trucks they're just replaceable metal wrapped around a sweet engine.

 

I leave my nice, aluminum Rapid Hitch 5 1/4" drop receiver(no ball, just the drop) locked in the hitch just for those occasions. I don't want some clown rear ending me and going under the truck.

 

Did the people in the car survive? Is that blood on the driverside pic?

Judging by the amount of blood on the floor board of the car I'm guessing she didn't fare so well

 

I think its a catch 22 with/without the hitch. I had seen a dodge flipped over from a car rear ending it, going under and the dodge ending up on the roof.

 

These trucks are tough in a wreck.

 

Still don't know,,,, they hauled me off first, they were still trying to cut her out when I was taken away...

Amazing is all I can say,,,she didn't move me hardly at all, crap flew all over the inside of the truck, I'd just left a tree sale, bought some fruit trees.

Of course she was un-insured, of course,,,,, this is my second time with un-insured motorist,,,,,

I'm fine though, they just wanted to check out my neck,,,, turned out well,,,,anyway for a 62 yr old man anyway
