I used my bed for the first time and put 4000 pounds of rock in there and she still drove good! I love this truck the over head reading read 16.5 mpg all the way home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's a Lot of rock for the truck. Not that it can't handle it, but you are over loaded. The 2500's are only rated for 9,000lbs gross, so 1 ton of stone is about all you "should" carry. 4,000lbs is a lot of weight. (not to mention any fines you could get)
2nd, if you even think about calculating your millage off your overhead, put a piece of tape over it, it's about as accurate as a math teacher in the dark. Those things are normally 2-3mpg off, so hand calculations are the only way to check.
Other than that, these things do great pulling, towing, ect.
