the cut off date on the newer trans was 5/06 any trans built after that date has the higher ratio 6th gear. i know of some trucks built late 06 that stll have the old g56 . so dont know when dodge actually started putting the nw ones in .im thinking early 07 . when you order parts for the trans the cut off date on the old one is 05/06

What is the ratio of the new G56? The old one is .79 or .78, right?

The new one is .74, the old one is .79. The NV5600 was .73...

I have an 05 NV5600 and my dad has a 06 G56, both rigs have 3.73's... My dad can pull just about any interstate hill with 7-10K behind him in 6th gear, I cannot... Thats the difference that ~200 rpms makes...

A early G56 with 3.73's turns about what a NV5600 with 4.10's turns, in OD.. Hence no 4.10's with a G56.

Personally I would like to have a .80 and a .70 OD, a towing and a empty OD... I may add a US Gear OD unit down the road, which would give me a .80, .73, and .58 OD's....

Look at your G56 and llok for P52104714AE. If it is an "AE" then it is the taller OD.

I really do not think that it makes a huge difference. My dad and I get about the same mileage, give or take... More often I wished I had a lower OD than a taller one.

Which is a really tall gear set with the new G56. Thats 1950 at 70, vs 2260 at 70 with 3.73's and the early .79...
