high idle on an 03
You know.......THIS just adds insult to injury. We have an 01 F-750 @ work, with a 5.9l and the VP pump. THE DANG CRUISE WILL RAISE THE IDLE ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!! It CAN be done ! I know it.......just have to figure it out! It has a pto too.
Might start be verifying TSB is valid and validating the reprogramming has been done.

Keep listening to the STAR and you never will find a solution.
From TSB 18-004-04:
"This bulletin involves erasing and reprogramming the Cummins ECM with new software.
A new feature has been added that allows the vehicle operator to use the speed control switches to increase the engine speed up to 1500 rpm, to improve cab heat."
From TSB 18-033-04:
"This bulletin involves programming a generic Cummins ECM with software.
Mopar is phasing out pre-programmed Cummins Diesel Engine Control Modules (ECM). New modules will no longer be preprogrammed when received from Mopar. Replacement of future ECM's will require programming utilizing the DRBIII and TechCONNECT. 1998 1/2 - 2002 modules will cause the "Wait to Start" light to flash, indicating the module has not been programmed."
The TSB's indicate the standard Cummins software did not contain the idle up features. By completely reloading the ECM with a DC program it was made available. This is probably the reason why it works for some and not others as the ECU was loaded with the DC software at some point.
That makes sense to me. It makes sense to me by way of I really believe the smarty gave me the high idle. When Smarty publishes a new file online, it always contains the latest DC flash. Since I have used all of the updates published since last April, I could not say which one did it, or if they all did it or what. But, it is consistent with the statement above concerning the ecm programming form DC.
The Cummins ECM software looks to be the reason it does NOT work.

Yeah.... I hear ya, but.........the F750 has been this way since new, and never been updated. My 03 has the latest updates available. Is it that hard to make it available for us Dodge? I'd pay for it myself! ( not to design the whole program, but enough people buying it would surely cover the cost! )
Your truck is a light duty truck with a minimal feature set cuz DC did not want to pop for the extra features when they were not needed. I bet when the contract was negotiated with Cummins the haggling was down to even ECM features.

You say yours has the latest flashes, but to WHAT? The standard Cummins generic program....or.....DC's version of it? If you have never done the TSB to reload the ECU you might very well have the generic version. It would be expected that flashes to one system would not be the same as to another and there would be gaps. Unless you can verify the version number in your ECU is the DC program I would start with the reflash and TSB. It might cost you but you might get the results you want along with it.
i dont know why it works on some and not others,i took mine in to the dealer and they found it was already enabled, they told me it wont work on a stick,i didnt want to explain the whole pin 22 thing,i do have the pin installed and my ecm says it enebled and i even have the square cruise buttons but still no worky,i have a pred tuner so im not sure of that is making it not work or not,{put back to stock for the trip to the dealer}ill keep an eye on this thread though, good reading so farr
Huh. I've got an '04 (not 4.5) with an auto. I just read all 8 pages of this thread to see if a Smarty JR will enable me to use the manual fast-idle feature with the cruise control, but I was still a little lost.
So I just started the truck and tried it, no re-flash and no Smarty; the truck idles up when I turn on the cruise and hit 'set'; I can idle it up and down with the accel and decel buttons.
So much for needing the Smarty (for this feature!). My engine manufacture date is 09-29-03.
