Help high EGT's

For about a month I've been runing a Deablo Sport Prediter downloader. I've been running it on the performance setting not extreme. Yeaterday I installed a boost and EGT guage. The first time out at full throttle my egt's pegged at 1600 deg.My question is have I done any damage? I have done lots of full throttle take offs but never towed anything or held it wide open for a long time. I never had any idea that my egt's ever got that high.

1600 was pretty easy to high with CL!! For a short burst you're probably alright I would recommend doing this all of the time and as long as it wasn't for a prolonged amount of time you didn't do any damage! Time for a new exhaust and turbo if you want to cool her off!!

Tough to say. Aluminum starts to melt between 1400 and 1500°

Throw a boost fooler on there and it will help WOT egt's although they still might be a little higher than you like. The boost fooler should give you the most noticeable egt drop then maybe a muffler replacement would be the next step.

The melting point of "pure" aluminum is only 1220*F.

BD intercoolers are upposed to drop EGT's like 200 degrees. A vendor that sells them om ebay, says his shop truck dropped 170 degrees. Of course there are lots of variables and he probably would like a sale. If I had the dough, I's get one, they are awesome looking.

My 05 and 06 would both hit 1400* stock...so wouldnt be too worried about the aluminum melting point at 1250/1400/1500.....that being said from what i've seen on these boards, you dont want to sustain anything above 1400....brief spurts to 1500/1600 shouldn't have done anything....i'd think you'd know if you melted a piston!

This is why everyone recommends gauges first, fuel 2nd....so you can manage the egt's.....definetly get an intake, at least new muffler and a turbo if you want to keep on the throttle longer...

Thanks for all the help. I feel a much better. It looks like the Boost Fooler is the way to go for now. One more question? I have the plastic sided inter cooler will it hold the additional boost provided. Some where I read it was not as strong as the metal one and has problems cracking with higher boost.

Boost fooler = bad for plastic ic caps and bad for stock turbo....you can do it, but you're on borrowed time.....i'm dying to put the smarty boost fooling software on my truck, but i'm not going to allow myself to smoke my stock turbo just yet....the one time i did, it wasn't hard to hit 45+ PSI (agt least on the freeway)....and thats just with level 3....

just curious

thanx

p.s. a boost fooler can destroy stock turbo?

4 hr trip with 90mph ave - not an issue unless it was all up hill!...I use to run the I5 from San Diego to San Fran every month....would get a little tosty up the grapevine, but on the flats or normal hills 90mph extended is not an issue....you dont have to keep it hammered to stay at 90....and the boost settles down at steady cruise speed.....did you notice cruise control wont hold above 87mph (at least on my 05, havent tried on my 06)....really ****** me off! :-)

Yes, a boost fooler can destroy a stock turbo....you'll get lots of opinions....but most say 36-38 psi is the most you should hit regularly on the stock turbo....depending upon your fuel mods, you can easily surpass 38psi....others will say low 40's is ok....it's all up to how much risk you want to take with your stock turbo...

I always love the comments about boost blowing up stock turbos yet I am unable to find any that have blown up just from running more boost?

Yes, if you beat on your truck and you are barking the turbo and you use the throttle like an on off switch 45-48psi will kill your turbo over time. If you use it like a normal person you are not likely going to have issues. If you need to see 45+psi every day and you are rough then it will go over time.

All the boost fooler does is allow the wastegate to stay closed. Doing so allows it to make more than 32-34psi. It does not have to go to the max boost level it all depends on your right foot and how much fuel you have.

Quad, i respect your opinion and the fact you monitor these boards, so no offense intended...and i'm not a diesel expert....i can just say that with my smarty on level 3 (boost fooling version) on the freeway, i could get to the mid 40's w/o even trying.....0 chance of controlling it with my foot if i wanted to go anywhere fast....i've seen several people say it's ok or not ok....i'm just using common sense....45+ psi has got to be at or over the design limit of the stock turbo = no good for longevity....just my personal opinion....

I loved the perf of the boost fooling sw, and would love to run it daily, I just want to beef up my tranny before my turbo shorns a blade or 3!
