Is there any milage increase with this modification? I have been thinking about picking up a Smarty Jr when I can scrape up the cash, but more for better fuel economy than performance increases. This truck does all I ever ask it to do and better than any gasser I have owned...

If you look at your mod's as a total package then the turbo certainly helps. To what degree on mileage alone i would say small. If your just looking for fuel mileage improvements i would recommend a Dr. Performance module. It has exceeded every other tuning product on my trucks for fuel mileage & produced lower EGT's. My goals were to run at 100 hp over stock with Low EGT's as these early common rails are prone to dropping valve seats. Thru trial & error i've come up with a set up i'm very satisfied with. Good luck with your build up, get some gauges & take babby steps with the tuning.

1. so the HE351 has an electronic controlled wastegate correct?

2. the ATS plug is to plug the solenoid mounting point?

3. do you use the wastegate off of the he351, or your original?

4. 03-04 wastegates are controlled off of boost?

5.thats where the boost elbow comes into play, close it off and the wastegate will not come into play?

Yes the HE351 has an electronic controlled wastegate (the solenoid)

The ATS plug is used if your removing the solenoid. It also plugs the bypass holes in the Solenoid hole. You can keep the solenoid in place unplugged & fill in the bypass hole with a little silicone or JB weld to prevent any chance of boost bypassing. Again not needed but not a bad idea while your there.

You can use the HE351 wastegate but you do have to give it a boost source. Adjustable boost elbow in the compressor cover works well.

The 03 - 04 wastegates are controlled by boost only.

The adjustable boost elbow is need to provide a boost signal to the wastegate & to set the exact amount of boost you want to run.

If your truck is stock there is probally nothing to be gained. If you have added any extra fueling you will pick up HP & lower the EGT's.

.....and just to clarify, the HE351s will bolt up to the 03-04 downpipes just fine?

Obviously, the 04.5-07 downpipe is preferred, because it has a larger inside diameter.....

Yes a box, programer or injectors. The turbo swap would certainly benefit you.
