I still have the solenoid in place aswell, I was thinking maybe it was leaking around that somehow. So by pinching the line off completely it won't hurt anything? Im just wondering why the boost elbow is all the way adjusted and it won't see the PSI it's supposed to?

 

I don't have enough fuel to hurt anything on my truck. 35psi is as high as my truck will get with my current setup but that's if I turn my VA on high which I only did a couple times. You have a lot more fueling than I do so you may want to try the clamp but don't crank down on it all the way. Start with it about 3/4 cranked down and start testing and tuning....
Are you sure you're not adjusting your elbow the wrong way???

 

You might be bleeding some boost past the solenoid. If you remove it you will see a bypass port in the compressor housing that the ATS plug seals. My 03 would hit 40 psi easily with just a Smarty for additional fueling.

 

Well, the turbo and DP clamp both showed up today. The only part I am missing is the gasket for the turbo oil return line. Anyone have this part #? Now all I need is for the weather to cooperate, so I can git er dun!

 

I got mine installed Friday. It is sweet! With the silencer ring removed, and combined with my JMB Perf. intake, it sounds like a freakin' jet plane cleared for takeoff! Pretty cool! I don't have my gauge install complete yet, so I'm not going full pulls or anything, but even so, I can feel a definite improvement. Since ATS decided not to send my plug for over 3 weeks now, we found a way around it by cutting the solenoid off the nut and welding a 1/8"NPT bung fitting on it, and atttaching the boost elbow there. Also welded the side transfer ports inside shut to prevent leakage around it. All in all, a very clean way to do it, and much cheaper than the $60 plug. As soon as I get the gauges hooked up and Smarty installed, I'll give you the complete story on it. Thus far, I'm very happy with it for such a simple and relatively inexpensive upgrade! I'm picking one of these up for my '03 6spd, planning to run it with Smarty Jr and some mild propane injection for towing a 17k trailer.

I'm a bit confused on the blocking off of the passage in the selonoid plug. If I'm totally disabling the wastegate anyway(spot weld or turn buckle) do I need to worry about it?

Is it safe to tow 17k with the fuel the Smarty Jr will put out and the wastegate disabled?

For the WG, you will want a plug for the solenoid hole, ATS sells one. That will disable the WG, nothing else needed.

You should be fine with the Jr and towing without a WG. I have seen that the WG opens on its own about 55psi of DP, so its a lot of DP, but not too bad.

If you find your getting too much boost or DP you can easily make the WG operation again with an adj boost elbow.

 

Ok but if I didn't want to buy the plug and wait for it to arrive can I just pinch off the waste gate line and be done with it or do I need to also plug off the holes in solenoid?

 

If the solenoid is not commanded open you can leave it as it, and it shouldn't do anything.

 

I just clamped my hose and I'm boosting to 42 psi so its not always necessary to plug the solenoid.

 

The solenoid plug is just for aesthetics, it takes 12v to open it, so without that its 100% closed.

 

I noticed that there is a passage way that leads back to the turbo inlet. It is open when there is no voltage on the solenoid, is this an issue?

Adjustable elbows are hard to adjust. I put on the elbow that came with an Edge EZ. My boost now will just goes over 35psi instead of much higher. It has a very small hole in it.
