Have I made a bombing mistake?
Have I made a bombing mistake?
I finally broke down and got a TST pmcr. I know this box will shred my stock truck on the upper levels so I don't plan on running it at levels higher than 3. Keep in mind that I don't pull heavy loads and don't drive the truck like it is a vette. I just want a little more pep.
I was not planning on doing any major upgrades with the exception of maybe the tranny on down the road. Now I'm seeing that some people say you need a bigger turbo to handle the EGT and prevent the stock turbo from taking a dump.
Is there anything I need to watch out for or should I not use this box if I don't intend on any other major upgrades in the near future?

That is one of the first BOMBing options for my new ride.
I am planning on installing guages, which is one of the things you should do, IMO. I don't believe you should worry about this being the only thing you do. As long as you have a good set of guages so that you can see what is going on with your EGT's, boost, and fuel pressure.
This is a very nice upgrade that shouldn't give you any trouble as long as you are able to monitor everything else that is happening with your pick-up.

I have had mine for a while now with stock turbo
As long as you have a good intake(AFE or?) and full 4" exhaust no cat and a freeflow muffler and the boost elbow fitting.
and guages to watch EGTs and BOOST you should be fine
Remember just because it has 9H.P. settings AND 9 TQ settings does not mean you have to use them...
I mostly run 2-2 or 3-2 and when I want to scoot 4-2 will do it
and when in traffic or just cruisin I run setting 1 (timing only) and at those settings with the set up listed in my sig. its hard to hit 1300 egt

i have a question. people always recommend a better air intake. i would think if you let more air flow you will run lean and that means higher temperature. so my question now is why do we need an air filter system if we want the egt lower?? this is probably a stupid question i just don't get it?
