My girlfriends mother has a jeep srt8, top speed factory is 155, will not go over that, if you hear its over that its not...the darn thing rev limits out after that, its bouncing off rev limit at 155. dont let people fool you unless they have a lot of cash into that tranny to make it work out for them.

==> The GC SRT-8 is not speed limited. Once the aero and tire drag equal the available power, the car stops to accelerate. This happens at about 165 MPH.

Go over to www.cherokeesrt8.com and snoop around, there's a bunch of threads of guys going well over 160 with pics/vids to prove it. If it'll do 165 with no wind it makes sense that some have got over 170 with a light tailwind.
I'm no cheerleader for those guys but I've got to give that truck props, I've been hooked after getting a few rides in them. I'd sure love to have one but I've got enough projects already lol. (Maybe when the rumored production 6.4L Hemi makes it in the SRT-8s)
Well I own one and have to say their are 2 factors here, how fast will it go, and how fast will it go safely. I have to say I love mine but it is a very raw vehicle. In a straight line at a very smooth track I would run mine full tilt, but on an actuall road with bumps, winds, road debris, and turns, Im not comfortable running mine above 125-130. They are very fun to drive but I have had my traction control, and stability control come on twice while driving it pretty aggressive on the back roads, and help me out of some sticky situations that I would never have been in had the jeep been a little more refined. As far as stop light to stop light driving they are real tuff to beat. These things even stock will snap your neck, and make your teeth chatter at launch. Stop light to stop light Ive never had anyone even close, and I will say it again I dont think my truck would stand much of a chance from a stop and a non boosted launch.
There tough thats for sure I think jeep built it just to get the fastest production suv title back I know they had it in 98 with the grand cherokee's with the 5.9 lit but lost it when the BMW and Porsche suvs came out. I wouldn't doubt that it will get up around 155 or little above When I had my 95 with just the lil 318 in it with a few minor mods and performance computer it would run around 126 to 128 topped out but def wasnt the safest feeling thing at that speed. If you look at the wind resistance numbers on grand cherokees they really are pretty good considering how big they are.
first two things. the new zo6 will go 202mph and the c6 will go 197. the zo6 has 505 hp and the c6 have 400 but the 2008 have 430 hp. second the srt- 10 truck sucks, for how much hp it has which is 500 its slow. my wife and i have had are srt8 gc for a year now and its the fast. i have had it to 150 and there is alot of room left to go before redline so i think 170 is doable but 180 i dont think it can happen and i know i dont have the ***** to do it. my 2007 5.9 will get its *** kicked by my jeep 4 out of 5 times and i have stuff done to my truck. i dont know if the drive of that jeep u raced did not know how to drive or if he was messing with you, but you should have lost from the start, sorry.
This thread is funny. One word guys AERODYNAMICS.... Just because a speedometer might say 160 or 170 etc dosent mean that you are going that fast. A vehicles speedometer is least accurate at top speeds, I have seen as much as 30% difference at top speeds. And that is invariably to the slower. This is consistant to all vehicles, motorbikes included.
As for aerodynamics, just to let you know how much they play a roll in this, Kawasaki decided a few years ago to build the worlds fastest production bike, they wanted to hit 320 kph. After alot of testing and design hey managed this, the government then passed a law that motorcycles couldnt go faster than 300 kph. All Kawasaki did was change a small peice of body work and it dropped the bike down below the 300 mark. No change in the power or drivetrain, just a very small change in the aerodynamics.
All in all, while I love the srt 8 jeep, I really honestly doubt that if clocked by radar if they could hit much over 150 mph.

crazy
Well again Last night took the jeep out and 155 no more. we use the jeep to film. We use the vette to film faster. Maybe some are different as to where they are sold. If would go faster it would. The aerodynamics are a factor as to how fast it can go efficiently. The jeep has pretty smooth line and is low.
Many cars are speed limited to 155 but I thought that was a european thing.
PS 153.4mph gps

Wow...didnt realize there would be a war on the jeep top speed...LOL. LIke I said the darn thing blew my doors aff after i stopped at 125 mph. And after reading up on them they seem too be consistant 13.3-13.5 vehicle. So I was kinda right in feeling this was my strongest run ever....too bad i wasnt at the track for this one.
All I know, is if I wasnt gonna drive a CTD, that jeep would be on my list. They look mean and sound mean.

420HP makes 180mph?
No sale here!
You'd need a Cd less than .3 and even though the Jeep looks slippery - it's still a slippery brick...
A road vehicle traveling 180mph requires about 4X more power at the drive wheels than at 120mph - and I'm pretty sure the Jeep needs more than 100HP to make triple digits on the speedo!
Still, IMO it's a cool ride...

I though you guys were smart over here.
Why cant some of you accept that a Cherokee has a top speed over 150.
Its been proven enough already.
It is a bad as american SUV. Sure there's better out there like the 520hp twin turbo Porche Cayeene (sp)
Its basically raw power in a Jeep. Dont expect europeen performance.
Also look at the LS2 powered Trailblazer SS. Its not as quick stock but there's tons more aftermarket for the LS2 then the 6.1L.

I'm VERY skeptical of a claim of 180. The aerodynamics of that thing (even lowered) should put the ki-bosh on speed of that level.
I'd expect top speed of a Jeep STR8 to be about 155, and I'd be stunned if it was over 160.
425hp (sae net) is good, but won't go very far with the Cd of a Jeep.
That same 425hp in a 'Vette will take you past 170 pretty easily.
JMO
No, it definitely doesn't hit the redline at 155mph, I've been in one personally up around that speed and it had plenty of room before redline.

Some of us feel the same way about you people that think it can go 170 or 180.
