As for the free mods, I hear a number of people modifying their stock airbox. Do an advanced search for "swiss cheese" in the "Performance and Accessories 3rd gen only" forum. You can also remove the silencer ring on the turbo to make it whistle a lil louder. Do a search for "silencer ring removal" in the same forum as above.
The exhaust mod I chose to do wasn't quite free, but it sure was cheap! Go to the DTR Performance Shop and check out the available options from MBRP. I went with the replacement muffler, the CAT "test" pipe (strictly for testing purposes and then I put the CAT right back on
), and a new 5" tip. It looks and sounds great and cost under $300!
As for the programmer, it really depends on what you're interested in achieving. You can go from mild to wild with the programmers and boxes. Spend some time doing a few searches and I'm sure you'll find exactly what you're looking for! Good luck!
