Got burned...

Got burned by another 3rd gen. Black 2wd dually on my way to weatherford. I was in the passing lane goin probably 70 or so and saw the truck pull up behing me fast so i punched it. he stayed right behind me so i moved over keepin it floored and he slowly started pullin away. I was so mad because right before i left my house i turned the smarty from #8 to #2 for the drive to school . But i think i hit about 110 mph and truck wouldnt go any faster but his kept goin...whats up with that? Now the smarty is back on #8 and staying there unless that wouldn't be good? I drive very conservative unless someone challenges me like this morning. I cant pass up that kind of fun.

Whistler and gauges are next...I know i should already have gauges but when i was about to purchase them i burned through 2nd, 3rd, and OD in my tranny. What should come after the Whistler and gauges. I need to stay reliable too. Thinking maybe studs, springs, and injectors.

Did you change the speed limiter settings with your Smarty?

I know with the factory programming the trucks are limited to 105-110 mph and (I believe) the computer defuels the motor to maintain the limit.

With your trans and adding some guages...you'll be fine with Revo 9 (not tnt 9)....may be low on fuel pressure, but she'll run pretty good i'm guessing.....i wouldnt run even numbers with your setup...

I got burned by a 4x2 cummins (think it was an 05)...it was the first time i raced with my new turbo and arson 3...i didnt stage, just floored it off the line and she chocked on all the fuel (beta 4.4)...spit a huge cloud of smoke and finally took off after 2-3 seconds....by that time he was already gone....

I'm guessing with the aftermarket turbo / arson..i either need to do a boosted launch or ease on the throttle...not sure what happened, but next time 10psi launch and i'm gonna win.

I took a red 4x4 in south florida with a built transmission and i had none.... I was stacked with a fuel pump, powerpuck and smarty (no tranny work) he had a bullydog with a tc and vb. Had him from start to finish where i rolled off on the highway going about 90 with about 2 lengths. I think it was the weight that did it honestly and less moving parts.

I have been running my truck with Smarty on 9 for.........hmm....I don't know. About 50K miles now. NO ill effects that I have seen, towing, daily driving, whatever.

What's the point of having the power if it's not available when you need it? ( Understand, I am not condoning street racing....)

But I do all my adjusting with my right foot. I keep my MP8 on 100 percent too..........so far with no ill effects. (I am not suggesting anybody do that)

My trans was built by James Northum too....like yours. You have the trans...now just make sure you have the gauges. ( and 2 micron filtered fuel!)

should i be running with the timing? its so much smoke! Why is the even numbers bad? What do yall think i should be running on? and when im towing (35 foot horse trailer, stock trailers, flatbeds) what should i run it on. I was told not to run timing when towing so i just usually dont run it.

What does the timing do exactly. i dont know what it does except more smoke and thats why i dont run it. I know what fuel does.

I run timing on 4, pressure on default and sw 5 pulling a trailer all day every day.
timing on 3 or 4 is less timing than 2 so it should have less ill effects

i still dont understand the who timing thing. and i have the old smarty. i couldnt figure out how to change the speed limiter. and i cant make the timing and fueling different numbers. it only gives me options 0-stock-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9. when i tried to change speed limiter only thing i could do is change the tire size and i already had that set.

can someone please explain timing or if you want ill start a new thread about that.
