GDP 2 Micron Filter Kit
My point is you need a pump. Who cares who sells it. If they recommend it, get it. Just because they are selling them doesn't mean that is why they recommended it, to make a buck. Heck, buy the pump from someone else. Just get one. That is my point.
Or just get a pump?
I'm with you!But Ima jump a little deeper.
The GFS 392 is great plenty. If you are over, say, 1000HP, look for the Airdog, Dual GFS 392, or FASS 150, Not that you'll need it, but just for a comfort factor...
There is the question of filtration. Important, but until I really investigate it, I'll reserve my comments.
dslpwr81, No way is this post a hammer on you.
ptgarcia, Need has really nothing to do with it. It's like hedging your bet.
On paper, The pump will do this and that, Blahh, Blahh, Blahh...
I'm not much on odds, unless they are stacked in my favor...
Ohh, And BTW, No hammer to you, either.
My point is there are things in real life and in real motors that happen, which affect fuel delivery.
Show me a Chart, Graph, or engineering data created on a test bench, under perfect conditions. I'll show you half clogged filters, restrictive lines, low voltage, cold fuel, basicly anything LESS than ideal in the real world.
People can and DO put too much emphasis on the engineering data or specs.
Whatever.
Those are GUIDELINES. Remember application in the real world requires you to be responsible enough to protect your investment.
ptgarcia, You have had some success with your setup, and, notably, in the REAL world.
But one success story isn't enough for me to buy into it. I probably don't have HALF the mods you guys do, but I've got more pump than I'll ever use.
What's "Overkill" for one, is "Insurance" for another!
Either way, I'm not disagreeing with you, just looking for your firm stance opinion!
Like most, I don't have test equipment, so my comments are based on personal experience with my truck. I can see how varying conditions and factors can change whether or not a better pump is advisable or even required. I don't race my truck, I change filters regularly and often, and honesty don't mash the throttle much. I'm sure with someone else behind the wheel a better pump would be a good idea. Eventually, I will get one, but I think the average Joe doesn't "need" one.

Actually, an "Average Joe" probly wouldn't have a 2 micron filter to begin with and probly isn't a member of this site!

Most folks I know with diesels are happy driving their truck 100% bone stock, I get asked all the time, "why do you need more power", "how much power do you need" etc. The people asking those questions are the real "Average Joes" I think.
How many PSI do you have at idle Paul pushing through a 2 micron filter clean and when it's dirty?
Guess I'm not an "Average Joe" then, all I know is with things cranked up to 450 HP my stock pump couldn't keep up with a stock filter, let alone the 2 micron. My engine mods are mild compared to most active members here I think.

By "average Joe" I was thinking someone with exhaust and intake and one of the mainstream power-adders from Edge, Banks or Bullydog. I think there are lots of members here on DTR that fits that description.
About 5-6 p.s.i., whether its clean or dirty.
I need to add also that I run the old 10-micron filters in the factory housing.
does someone sell the just the bigger line that replaces the restrictive supply line between the stock filter housing and the CP-3? wouldnt that be a benifit to everyone with just the regular stock system, or filtration? to flow a little more fuel through not much but a little?

Yup...http://www.glacierdieselpower.com/de...dept_id=15-001
Wildcat, ok I understand your point now and I do agree with you. lol. I do believe that the average guy would NOT need a pump or line kit with the 2 micron filter. I may have miss understood what you meant by, whats your point. Sorry. I guess what I was saying is what has been said already. If you are running a box and you do get on truck hard, I believe that it would be in a guys best intrest to add a pump and line kit to push that fuel that is in a high demand, through that filter. Thats all. If your not running high mods, I don't think you need it either.
