gauges install
gauges install
hey all!
ok i have all my gauges in, a 3 pod a piller and am ready to start this install of a autometer boost, pyro, and fuel pressure gauges.
so, how do i do this :P
lest start off with fuel pressure, where is a good POST FILTER place to pick up fuel pressure? i read some one say that i should use a short piece of rubber fuel line to keep the sending unit off the engine, something about the vibrations that kills the senders..... is this true, and if so, where should i hook up to, and run the hose with out it looking funny?
boost gauge, id like the port to be outa the way, and as inconspicuous as possible. im sure ill have to remove parts to drill holes. iv also read that the gauge wont read correct in some places, is this true? something about the air flowing past the port, insted of into it, and not pressuring the gauge.
pyro, i kinda have a ideal, and have seen lots of pictures of where to drill the hole. not too many questions here. nothing special about the 06 manifold's right?
on to routing wires and hoses and stuf
is there a god hole in the firewall to route all this stuff? havent really had the chance to get under there and look. (stil at work for another week
)
lighting and power, where is a good place to nab power from for the gauges? what kinda connectors should i use? solder with heat shrink tubing would be the best right? is there enough power from the dash lighting system to light these bulbs, and is it going to be too bright or not bright enough? lets say the boost pyro and FP gauges are much brighter than my dash lights, how should i go about dimming them?
the search function is on the fritz, but it might be this wonderfull verizon air card connection i have right now.
anything you have to add, no matter how insignificant it might seem, please speak up

That guy is worthless...
How'd the install go? Seriously I used the instructions from their site. Took a lot of the guess work out of where to look for hot wires to tap and such. If you have any specific questions let me know...but then again I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. I try though.
As far as where to rout stuff...I kinda bumbled my way through it. There really is no best way. It's more like what you can live with. Some are more **** than others. I found a grommet in the firewall and poked (more like gouged) a hole for everything. The site I sent you will have the location of the bolt to remove for the boost pressure signal. Make sure you tap the left side of the exhaust manifold as it has a divider in there. You want the back cylinders of the engine as they run the hottest.
Let me know if I can screw the instructions up for you in any other way.

is your FP gauge electric or mech.? if it electrical did you mount the sending unit remotely?
like i said, thanks

Electic FP gauge. I installed a Raptor lift pump and big line kit from the filter to the CP3 at the same time. I spliced the FP sender into the rubber line between the filter and CP3. So far so good. What gauges you get? I used the Dipricols this time. I've used Autometer and Isspro in the past. So far I like the Dipricols the best.
If you're not using a big line kit, you can use a grease gun hose and screw it in the port on the CP3 that the instructions show for the sender. This will eliminate some of the pulses the sender gets. Then just zip tie the grease gun hose down. Or you could get one of the spendy SS hoses...
