Gauge Questions

I just ordered up my gauges(boost, pyro, tranny temp) and I had a few questions.

I'm set on the pyro, but I wanted to know some opinions on the placement of the transmission sender. any links or diagrams?

also I have heard alot of different ways to mount the boost gauge. whats the easiest?most acurate?

and finally, I was wondering how hard it was to wire the lighting to the dimmer switch, not familiar with this?

I would really like any detailed instructions or diagrams, thanks alot.

I'm not sure about the tranny sender, but I would think that you would just drill and tap a hole on the upper portion of the side of the pan. I've seen a few done this way but I'm no expert on this one.

As for the boost gauge I got what they call a boost bolt to replace one of the bolts in the intake manifold. The boost tubing just runs into the bolt and into the gauge...pretty simple.

Wiring for diming was pretty easy. I just tapped the cigarette lighter for gauge power, and then tapped the dimmer switch wire in the headlight switch assembly for the gauge dimming. I used a test light and checked each wire until I found the one that reduced the power when I turned the dimmer.

Mass diesel has a premade trans return line with the built in senor port for around $80.00. It is suppose to be the most accurate location for a sensor. It was a little messy, but quick. I would call them. They had one for my truck 04.5 even though they don't seem to list it.

You should have a port in the transmission on the passenger side up near the bellhousing. I would suggest looking there first before drilling and tapping.

Remove your air horn and drill and tap for the boost there. It will give you the best readings from that spot. Or you could get a boost bolt. You will need a boost tubing kit to make this happen with either installation direction.

Contact me as to what gauges you have and I will try to get you a diagram to help you wire them up.

I ordered the Autometer ultra lights, I am pretty sure that they include the needed sending units but i kinda forget.

I picked up a boost bolt from a local shop, so I will give that a go. I have heard some people say that a boost bolt goes under the turbo, but that makes no sense to me? The only practical location would be the intake manifold, but again I am unsure of where everything is going right now, lol.

Thanks alot everyone.
