Picked my truck up late friday afternoon. My girlfriend immediately noticed the engine is a lot quiter and of course I notice the wonderful turbine whistle. With just normal take off it sounds like a fighter jet spooling up. About what is the hp gain from swapping the stock turbo to the garrett? Just looking for a ballpark figure. Also noticed the fuel mileage is up. I know the lie-o-meter isn't ever right but I have never seen it get up to 30.1 on a highway trip, it usually stayed around 27.5 or so. Hand calculated was 20.5.
Also want to add big props to Tom at Turboresource. He is a good guy to deal with.

While turbo's themselves don't normally add hp I have heard the stock turbo robs so much that just a free flowing turbine can put more to the ground in the upper rpm band. Bell Turbo told me that their modified stock turbo picked up 27 rwhp on the dyno from decreased back-pressure, i'll let you determine how much of that is marketing hype.. But I know my truck feels stronger.
Does the extra airflow quieten the engine down? It is noticebly different than before the garrett.
I can't resist wanting to do the exhaust manifold next. Any recomendations on brand, I've seen several different makers and was wondering if one is any better than the other.

I am happy with my ATS manifold.
The added airflow will make for better combustion, which could quiet the motor. You also have slightly higher oil pressure which would quiet things down a little too. But most of it probably comes from the motor not working as hard to exhaust the spent gases.

That's a 2nd gen T-6, it would require a lot of effort to make it work on his truck.

I just installed My new garrett stg 2 last night and It shure spools up nice for a bigger turbo than stock I don't know any more than that since I have only drove it 5 miles lol. I have to give a thanks to PAT at big twin diesel for gettting me the turbo.

I played with the Steed Speeds last time I was in there too, very nice product!
I'm really enjoying mine. You can kind of hear the turbo whistle through the exhaust at idle and it feels like the truck is putting more ponies on the ground. I haven't hammered down on it, just normal driving but it feels different in the seat of my pants. Fuel economy is up also. Mine also has the .89 housing according to Tom and I can't tell a difference in spool time between this one and the stocker that was on it.
I pulled a trailer for the first time on friday. The trailer was about 17,000 lbs I just took it for a little spin I have a nice grade about 5 miles from my house. Same load with the stocker was about 45to 50 ish at 1250. the garrett I was 60 to 65 and was at 1250. I still need to adjust the WG it's opening at 32psi.
So far it spools just like a stocker but a little lower boost just cruzing down the road. SO far i'm likeing it. Now i got the bug to get pat's twin set up. LOL it never ends
