Front Locker help!

Wanting to put a front locker in my truck and I am wanting everyones input on what you are running. What fits the best, durable, easy of use or whatever else you have encounter. Also the best place to get it and what else will I need to do the job.

Right now I am looking at a electric locker from JUST DIFFERENTIALS, supposed to be the same thing as what is in the Power Wagon but doesn't have any of the wiring.

Anyway and information and help would be great!!!

Thanks,

Dustin

Jeremy at Desert Racing Concepts has installed quite a few Eaton lockers on Dodges, says theyre alot of fun, even at high speed desert racing.

I have a detroit front and rear in my truck. I don't know if they are made for the aam axles yet. Detroits don't have the manners of air or electric but they rarely fail.

I don’t think that the Eaton’s are true lockers. If you want a locker for your truck you are limited to the power wagon style. It should not be hard to wire in. Detroit does not make a locker for the aam 9.25 that I am aware of. I have one I the front of my 05 but I am running a Dana 60. Unless you have the locking hub conversion I would not run a posi or auto locker, you will get a lot of feed back through your steering. This is because both axles turn all the time. What do you want the locker for? I can say I use my truck off-road and I have broken chromemoly axles and warn premium hubs with out any problems and I am not running anything but a tst box. If you do lock the front and you think it is going to bind up back off or keep some spare axle shafts.

I will be using it for truck pulling only, can't see of any other reason for the need except if stuck or something. Thats kind of the reason why I want to have an electric locker, so I can unlock it or lock it as needed.

Theirs got to be some serious truck pullers out there that have lockers in the fronts of there AAM 9.25 that have some informations.

Thanks again for your replys, keep them coming!

So far the AAM locker has worked good for me. It has to work the worm gear in to lock though so you have to drive it a little first. Since you can't turn wheel with it locked (at least not with tires at 25psi plus weights) I pull half way up track and wiggle my wheels backing up till I feel its locked. Get a new set of bearings at same time and you'll have your stock as a spare carrier. Once axles were pulled maybe an hour and a half and had wheels back on. Its so easy. My buddy has an ARB but no compressor so we just put a valve stem on it and use a portable air tank.

Thanks for the reply, I just have a question as to how you came thru the housing with your electrical and where is a good place to order one?

Thanks again,

Dustin

ARB would be the best bet hands down, but if it pulling only save some green and weld it.

Thanks again for the replys, I got a AAM electric locker from JT diffs and I installed it a couple of weeks ago. It turned out really nice, I am running mag-hytec covers so what I did was milled a small slot in the cover for the wires to come thru along the gasket face and it worked perfect. I have a couple of hooks on it now and it works great. I took some pictures, but will have to see if I can get them posted.

Thanks,

Dustin

Yeah seemed to help a bunch, went to the first pull last weekend, and beat a couple of guys with some tough running D-max's that have beat me in the past.
