I asked this a long time ago when I first got my truck but I never followed through with it. Now I'm thinking about doing it again.

I have a 2WD and I've just always thought that the 2WD trucks sit too low in the front end. I'm thinking of getting some kind of spacers or something that would lift the front end up a couple of inches.

Does anyone know who makes such an animal and how hard they are to install? I seem to recall some kind of spacer that someone makes just for this purpose. I'm going to need to replace my front shocks pretty soon so I figure that would be a good time to put them in.

I figure I'll need to get my front alignment checked after I do this..and I may have to adjust the headlights some. Is there anything else that I should be concerned with once I do this? I just want to lift the front end a couple of inches so that it looks better.

 

I don't know anything about your 03, Sorry. If you had an old junker like me, I could help.

I have no idea if the hardware is the same between the 2nd and 3rd Gens or not, either.

Actually, I found some spacers made by a company called Daystar, but after reading about what is required to install them I think I'll just leave it the way it is.

 

i put the 1 1/2 inch daystar spacers on mine and they work great the truck drives the same as before just a little taller

Easy job. Slot the holes for the upper control arms so the alignment works out. Cut the old shocks out. Should take you 30 minutes a side (excluding alignment) Discard the old spring top rubbers.
You must get an alignment done afterwards. 1.5 or 2.0 lift looks good

 

I don't know how hard of a job it is on a 2wd but I've done a couple on 4wd's and they ain't are all that bad.

 

How hard were they to install? The instructions I saw basically had you taking the whole front end apart...which I really have no desire to do.

Rammtuff, you make it sound much easier than the instructions did (even though I didn't really follow what you said).

HERE are the instructions I found that made me think it just wasn't worth it.

 

I don't know how competent of a worker you are but I didn't use any coil spring compressors. About 12 or 15 nuts per side. I took the upper control arms right out, slotted the brackets (they need to move for the alignment) and reassembled everything. Quite easy actually. Hardest part is bending down on my old knees to jack it up. The rest is a cakewalk.

 

It's not hard, Hoss...actually, it's a lot easier than smoothing out a concrete bedliner, or doing all that backbreaking research to find out that Ford still owns Cummins
